As a Fish and Wildlife Biologist your duties will include, but are not limited to, the following:
Provides technical assistance to state and other Federal agencies that administer Farm Bill and related agricultural programs.
Provides technical and habitat restoration guidance and assistance to local, state and Federal cooperators in the restoration and protection of habitats utilized by Federal Trust resources on privately owned lands and in watersheds of National Wildlife Refuge System lands.
Provides technical assistance to cooperators to restore and enhance habitats of importance to listed threatened and endangered species.
Assists other Service employees with private lands work through training, consultation, and work review.
Assists with the review and management of habitat restoration projects, including contacting landowners and performing feasibility determinations, planning and design, obtaining permits and funding, completing and submitting Wildlife Extension Agreements (WEAs), interacting with contractors, and overseeing construction activities.
Participates in the development of annual and long-range goals, objectives, plans, and budgets for watersheds, focus areas, and ecosystem priorities within the assigned geographic area. Follows established procedures to prepare annual work plans and program schedules to maximize efficient use of financial resources to accomplish approved goals and objectives.
Develops, field tests, analyzes, and evaluates methods to restore and enhance habitats on private lands for fish, wildlife and plant resources and prepares reports and recommendations on habitat restoration techniques and accomplishments for the Wildlife Refuge Manager and other senior staff's review and consideration.
Develops and presents information to other bureaus/agencies, organizations, conservation districts, wildlife clubs, and community groups; coordinates with various media sources (print, radio, and television) to promote local PFW initiatives; and participates on locally-led conservation boards and committees.
Interacts with partners, including government agencies, Tribal entities, conservation organizations, agribusiness organizations, local community groups, and individual farmers and ranchers to develop and/or strengthen working relationships.

In order to qualify for this position you must possess both the Basic Requirement and Minimum Qualification.
Basic Requirement:
Degree: biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position. OR
Combination of education and experience: Courses equivalent to a major, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
Minimum Qualification [GS-9]
One year of specialized experience, equivalent to at least the GS-07 grade level in the Federal service. Examples of specialized experience include:(1) participating in field surveys to support habitat restoration work typical of the Partners for Fish and Wildlife, National Fish Passage, National Fish Habitat Partnership, or equivalent restoration programs (e.g., invasive species work); (2) assisting with biological initiatives related to the management of fish and aquatic resources; (3) assisting with the implementation of on-the-ground habitat restoration projects; and/or (4) assisting with data and/or budget analysis and reports of findings of habitat restoration projects. OR
Have completed two years of progressively higher level graduate education at an accredited college or university leading to a master's degree or equivalent graduate degree in wildlife biology, ecology, or a directly related field appropriate to this position.OR
Possess an equivalent combination of professional experience and graduate level education beyond the first year which together equals 100% of the requirements. (When combining education with experience, first determine the total qualifying education as a percentage of the education required for the grade level; then determine the experience as a percentage of the experience required for the grade level; finally, add the two percentages. The total percentage must equal at least 100 percent to qualify an applicant for that grade level.)
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
