This position will be filled under the Office of Personnel Management's Direct Hire Authority and is open to all United States citizens and U.S. nationals. As a Fish and Wildlife Biologist your duties will include but are not limited to the following:
Coordinate and facilitate the development, approval and implementation of grants that effectively support State, District of Columbia, and Native American Tribal conservation, management and outdoor access needs.
Analyze grant proposals to determine whether they 1) are eligible for funding under the respective act and applicable regulations; 2) comply with applicable laws and regulations, and policy; 3) are biologically sound; 4) are designed economically; and 5) will result in benefits commensurate with costs.
Review ongoing projects in the field and via reports to ensure that their development and/or use is carried out as originally proposed.
Provide consultation, advice, and guidance to the professional staff of the State fish and wildlife agencies, Tribal nations, and conservation organizations.
Communicates the accomplishments of grant funded work to key audiences..

In order to qualify for this position you must possess both the Basic Requirement and Minimum Qualification.
Basic Requirement:
Successfully completed a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's or higher degree that included a major field of study in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position. OR
Possess a combination of education and experience--courses equivalent to a major as shown above (i.e. at least 24 semester hours), plus appropriate experience or additional education..
Minimum Qualification [GS-12]
One year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility equivalent to grade GS-11 grade level in the Federal service. Experience may include developing and implementing grant proposals for fish and/or wildlife conservation or fish and/or wildlife-oriented recreation access projects; planning and implementing fish and/or wildlife research, management, access, and/or habitat projects; monitoring and evaluating fish and/or wildlife projects in the field to determine progress and providing guidance to address issues that occur during the project; developing and implementing cooperative partnerships to achieve fish and/or wildlife conservation or fish and/or wildlife-oriented recreation outcomes; implementing research and management projects focused on fish and/or wildlife in the marine environment.
Minimum Qualification [GS-11]
One year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility equivalent to grade GS-9 grade level in the Federal service. Experience may include supporting the development and implementation of fish and/or wildlife conservation projects or fish and/or wildlife-oriented recreation access projects; assisting with monitoring and evaluating fish and/or wildlife project activities in the field to determine progress in accomplishment of stated project objectives; assisting in data management and information exchange within or among natural resource organizations. OR
Possess 3 years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. or Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree in a related field. OR
A combination of education and experience as described in 1 and 2 above which together equals 100% of the requirement.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.
