Help

As an Accountant, you will perform the following duties:

  • Independently plan and perform a variety of work assignments/projects and analyzes and/or evaluates program operations in areas such as accounting transactions, problems, reports, systems, and other related areas that can have an impact on the effectiveness of the division meeting its goals and objectives.
  • Perform analysis and reconciliations of SGL accounts including budgetary and proprietary accounts. Analyze abnormal balances and recommends and/or processes corrective adjustments. Create and submit reports from complex data systems as required by senior management, financial managers, program offices, or customers.
  • Review financial and/or management reports as requested by senior management, financial managers, program offices, or customers and provide timely analysis and feedback to inquiring entity. Assist in the determination of required adjustments to accounting records and creates proposed worksheet adjustments to financial statements based on the review and analysis of unprocessed accounting transactions and trial balance to subsidiary reconciliations.
  • Provide professional and technical assistance and/or advice to team members, program offices, client agencies and vendors. Participate and provide input, as required, in the formulation of accounting and financial management policy and procedures. Assist in the review of legislation, regulations, and accounting standards as prescribed by GSA, Treasury and Office of Management and Budget and drafts recommended changes to policy, procedures and reports.

The GS-11 salary range starts at $69,107 per year. Locality will be determined based on duty location.

If you are a new federal employee, your starting salary will likely be set at the Step 1 of the grade for which you are selected.

Basic Requirements: You must have either A or B, or C:

  1. Degree in accounting
  2. Degree in a related field such as business administration, finance, or public administration that included or was supplemented by 24 semester hours in accounting. The 24 hours may include up to 6 hours of credit in business law
  3. A combination of college level education and experience.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE:

In addition to the Basic Requirements, you must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-09 level in the Federal service. Specialized experience is experience that demonstrates knowledge of the structure of private and public ledger accounts and the relationship between accounts; and experience providing advice on financial data to management.

Bargaining Unit Status: This position is ineligible for the bargaining unit.
Selected applicants may qualify for credit toward annual leave accrual based on prior non-Federal work experience or uniformed service experience.

  1. Knowledge of agency's/organization's accounting operations, which includes changes in program guidelines and accounting methods and conflicting data to make recommendations as to what action needs to be taken.
  2. Knowledge of agency/organization accounting activity policies, goals and objectives to perform assignments, projects, analysis and studies. Apply a wide range of accounting theories, practices, methods, and techniques to ensure the accuracy and integrity of financial information.
  3. Knowledge and skill to use qualitative and quantitative analytical techniques to analyze and evaluate issues related to various accounting situations and problems and develop or modify methods or procedures to handle and resolve accordingly.
  4. Knowledge of and ability to use applicable agency/organization automated systems such as the complex Pegasys system to analyze and interpret detailed accounting data.
  5. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing to provide advice, guidance, findings, and recommendations concerning various types of accounting and financial matters to various levels of personnel.
  6. Ability to independently and effectively develop sound accounting conclusions and technical judgments and to participate in decision-making sessions and meetings.
