Major duties for this position at the GS-13 level include but are not limited to the following:

  • Provides subject matter expertise in ergonomics on complex or unique cases to analyze and control risk to human health and safety due to ergonomic hazards. Reviews proposed drafts of new ergonomic enforcement policies, complex ergonomic citations, and proposed abatement methods. Provides technical comments and suggestions for change based on expertise, research and analysis on ergonomics.
  • Analyzes data and information obtained through searches in the OSHA Computerized Information System and other professional sources. Makes recommendations to influence OSHA ergonomic enforcement policies, based on data analysis.
  • Maintains knowledge of the concepts, principles, theories, and methods to investigate and apply the relations between space, time, matter, and mechanics, and other physical sciences to evaluate, correct and control ergonomic hazards to prevent cumulative trauma disorders (CTDs) and musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs).
  • Develops and participates in ergonomics presentations, briefings, and other information. Supports presentations on behalf of OSHA to other federal enforcement stakeholders and the OSH/OSHA Community of Interest.
  • Prepares written responses to requests for information from sources such as congressional inquiries from the public, or from Senators and Congressmen, industry associations, employee organizations, organized safety and health groups and other interested parties.

Qualifications

Basic Requirements

Education

Bachelor’s or graduate/higher level degree: major study in an academic field related to the medical field, health sciences or allied sciences appropriate to the work of the position. This degree must be from an educational program from an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education (external link) at the time the degree was obtained. (Transcripts are required).

In Addition to meeting the basic requirements above:

To qualify for the GS-13 grade level, applicants must have 52 weeks of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 level. Specialized experience is defined as: conducting ergonomic occupational health and safety evaluations and recommending methods to control ergonomic hazards to minimize risk to human health and safety, analyzing technical occupational safety and health data and statistics, including ergonomics; reporting and communicating technical data both orally and in writing, to influence ergonomic hazard control and enforcement policy decisions.
