Duties

Help
  • Serves as a writer-editor for Audit projects: audit reports, inspection and evaluation reports, annual plans, semi-annual reports to Congress, management challenges, briefing papers, budget requests, speeches, and other writing/editing work.
  • Reviews, analyzes, and edits multiple drafts of Audit's products to ensure that they meet OIG and related engagement standards, arguments flow logically from sufficient and appropriate evidence.
  • Seeks input from fellow writer-editors and OIG management and collaborates with involved parties to develop training courses intended to improve Audit staff's writing.
  • Teaches courses both independently and with other writer editors. Courses may include individual, group, and online classes; familiar with OIG's process for creating 508-compliant documents, as well as the Office of Audit?s Publication Procedures.
  • Handles multiple writing projects and coordinates with ABOD management to prioritize work and meet inflexible deadlines with well-written products.

Qualifications

Applicants must meet all qualifications and eligibility requirements by the closing date of the announcement including time-in-grade restrictions, specialized experience and/or education, as defined below.

Time in grade: Applicants must have one year at the next lower grade to be considered for the next higher grade (e.g. one year at the GS-9 grade level for consideration at the GS-11 grade level; one year at the GS-11 grade level for consideration at the GS-12 grade level).

Specialized Experience: Candidates must meet one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level in the Federal service or comparable experience not gained through federal service.

To qualify for the GS-11 level: Applicants must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-9 level in the Federal service or private sector equivalent. Specialized experience is defined as experience 1) writing, editing, and formatting documents, such as audits, Inspections and Evaluations, reports to Congress, speeches, congressional testimony and briefing papers, policy and procedure manuals, and organizational documents 2) preparing a variety of presentations, charts, and developing visual aids for use in meetings and briefings; and 3) utilizing various computer systems and software applications to complete assignments.

OR

A Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree, 3 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.M., if related. Related degrees may include english, writing, journalism, communication, marketing, advertising, education, liberal arts or in such fields as business or public administration or industrial management or any other field directly related to the position to be filled. OR A combination of graduate education and specialized experience as described above.

To qualify for the GS-12 level: Applicants must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-11 level in the Federal service or private sector equivalent. Specialized experience is defined as independently: 1) writing, editing, and formatting: audit reports in accordance with Generally Accepted Government Auditing Standards (GAGAS); Inspections and Evaluations in accordance with the Council of the Inspectors General on Integrity and Efficiency's (CIGIE) Quality Standards for Inspection and Evaluation; reports to Congress, speeches, congressional testimony and briefing papers; policy and procedure manuals; and organizational documents 2) preparing a variety of presentations, charts, and developing visual aids for use in meetings and briefings; and 3) utilizing various computer systems and software applications to complete assignments.

Education

There is no education substitution at the GS-12 grade level.
