Duties

Help

If you are the person selected for this position, you will serve as the Deputy Director of the Infrastructure and Operations Service and be the principle adviser to the Director, collaborating on the effectiveness and technical integrity of the information technology infrastructure of the Agency. You will also serve as the focal point in providing centralized governance, policy setting and operations for enterprise wide IT infrastructure initiatives and solutions for the Agency.


The Deputy Director of the Infrastructure and Operations Service reports to the Director of Infrastructure and Operations, who provides policy and direction. Work is reviewed in terms of program effectiveness, responsiveness, and accomplishments. The Deputy Director executes tactically in alignment with program direction, directs subordinate staff members and makes commitments on his or her own authority.

In this position, you will provide technical oversight of all operational IT environments including the Enterprise Operations Center, all FAA non NAS IT networks, IT infrastructure, and IT data centers including cloud environments; protect them from harm through established change and configuration management processes; and re-establish operations when a detrimental event or outage occurs. You will monitor, manage and maintain the FAAs LAN, network operations, network hardware, Trusted Internet Connections and telecommunication services.

You will regularly provide expert level advice, guidance and support for client/device engineering services, including desktop, laptop and mobility hardware and software configuration and support. You will be responsible for design, implementation and management of the FAA enterprise-wide infrastructure environment, including directory and network services. You will provide server management, system administration, storage and backup, hosting services, disaster recovery service, and backup and archival service.

You will also be responsible for setting strategy to support digital products and services such as O365 and FAA Cloud Services (FCS) by transforming from traditional operational support service model to product service management, driving innovation and cross functional collaboration for operational and digital initiatives.

You will assign tasks and responsibilities to staff members; monitor and evaluate performance, effect hiring decisions and recommend pay increases and other conclusive personnel actions. You will be efficiently managing and safeguarding organizational resources, ensuring that internal controls meet Agency standards.

To qualify for this position you must demonstrate in your application that you possess at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to FV-K, FG/GS-15. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position.

Specialized experience include: Experience advising senior management on the execution, oversight, maintenance, development and tracking performance of operational IT environments including IT networks, IT infrastructure, IT data centers and an Enterprise Operations Center. This experience includes leading staff, executing directives and maintaining IT support services including Network, (LAN WAN, TICS), Hosting (Cloud, CoLo) and Data Center Services, application support, client/device management and performance monitoring.
