Duties

Help

Serves as teller to collect payments directly from the customer in accordance with policy and protocol. Duties include, but are not limited to: reviewing documents to verify accounting data as necessary, entering data into the Electric Utility Management System (EUMS); reconciling accounts comparing account balances with related data to assure agreement; reviewing records and source documents to identify the sources of discrepancies, and determining the entries required to bring the account into balance; researching all transactions to resolve any problems; examining worksheets to verify the accuracy of accounts and adequacy of supporting data; classifying accounting transactions that include verifying the accuracy and completeness of the accounting data; determining the general ledger accounts, journals and subsidiary accounts affected and the debit/credit entries to be made; summarizing transactions and preparing control documents or other posting documents reflecting the entries to be made; preparing timely and accurate bills; ensuring that updates of billing account and customer information are up-to-date; developing repayment plans/payment extensions based on account and other information in accordance with DOI/BIA SCIP authorized procedures; monitoring receipts, maintaining suspense on delinquent accounts and ensuring that system accounts (late fees, rates, deposits) are accurate; making determinations and recommendations, as to the necessary actions needed for each delinquent account; contacting customers by phone and/or in writing to resolve outstanding payments; maintaining appropriate debt accounting records used to document collection efforts, and preparing financial reports connected with EUMS; and referring debt to U.S. Treasury in accordance with the Debt Collection Improvement Act and other subsequent Treasury guidance. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Grade 5: 52 weeks specialized experience equivalent to the GS-4 level. Examples of specialized experience include work experience performing accounting or budget work using automated financial systems. OR 4 years above high school
