Duties

Help
  • Evaluates and interprets incoming investigative reports and information related to a specifically defined geographical or functional area.
  • Provides comprehensive support to locate, acquire, review, select, and organize law enforcement investigative materials for use in briefings, reports, memos, and other analytical products.
  • Develops additional methodologies to supplement conventional investigative intelligence evaluation.
  • Prepares investigative intelligence collection manuals and instructions relating to a specific subject area, for use by officials traveling both domestically and overseas.
  • Provides interpretation of investigative intelligence analyses and drafts critical interagency investigative intelligence assessments.
  • Determines the content and extent of highly technical investigative intelligence to be included in reports and briefings for high-ranking officials or policy makers.
  • Collects and catalogs investigative intelligence data to address gaps in the knowledge base identified by senior specialists or supervisors.
  • Develops new methods, approaches, and procedures to determine the validity of investigative intelligence information.
  • Assesses future requirements for investigative intelligence data based on trends and interpretations of events.
  • Monitors investigative intelligence trends to determine levels of coverage provided and required, and to anticipate and formulate new operations requirements.
  • Maintains liaisons with personnel in other law enforcement agencies, laboratories, and allied foreign governments to discuss investigative intelligence requirements and provide information.
  • Provides information pertaining to the most complex or strategically important investigative intelligence dissemination operations.

Qualifications

Applicants must meet all qualifications and eligibility requirements by the closing date of the announcement including time-in-grade restrictions, specialized experience and/or education, as defined below.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIREMENT FOR GS-13:

Specialized Experience for GS-13: One year of specialized experience, equivalent to the GS-12 level in the Federal service or private sector coordinating policy, planning and operational activities involving criminal, civil and administrative investigations; conducting investigative intelligence analysis; collecting and analyzing operational and strategic intelligence from wide-ranging sources including Federal, State, and local law enforcement agencies; providing technical assistance, training and consultation pertaining to complex and strategically important investigative intelligence operations; and maintaining liaisons with personnel in law enforcement agencies, military departments and foreign governments to discuss investigative intelligence requirements and problems.


FEDERAL TIME-IN-GRADE (TIG) REQUIREMENT FOR GENERAL SCHEDULE (GS) POSITIONS: Merit promotion applicants must meet applicable time-in-­grade requirements to be considered eligible. One year at the GS-12 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-13 level. TIG applies if you are in a current GS position or held a GS position within the previous 52 weeks. NOTE: Applicants applying as VEOA candidates who are current GS civil service employees or are prior GS civil service employees within the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

EDUCATION MAY NOT BE SUBSTITUTED FOR SPECIALZIED EXPERIENCE AT THE GS-13 LEVEL.
