Duties

Help
  • Performs a wide variety of stage and discharge measurements applying various methods and using different equipment depending upon field conditions based on USGS standards
  • Assists in the development of stage-discharge and velocity index curve
  • Performs hydrologic data peer review
  • Performs statistical and/or technical analyses of hydrologic data collected in the field
  • Assists with the tracking, scheduling and verifying of data collection
  • Installs, maintains, services and troubleshoots a variety of sensing, recording and communications equipment and instrumentation
  • Participates in the construction of a variety of gages and supporting structures
  • Conducts snow surveys designed to produce comprehensive forecasting data used to show the potential impact to Project facilities.
  • Prepares data for a variety of reports and/or requests for information from various agencies, United States Geological Survey (USGS), irrigation districts, State and local governments, private groups, or individuals.
  • With guidance monitors the supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) system.

A physical exam may not be required if a comparable agency approved examination was performed within the last 12 months. The cost of the exam will be reimbursed by the agency.

Qualifications

In order to be rated as qualified for this position, the HR Office must be able to determine that you meet the specialized experience and/or education requirement - this information must be clearly supported in the resume.

To qualify at the GS-07:
A.
You must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent in difficulty and complexity to at least the GS-06 level in federal service (or equivalent) having demonstrated experience 1) assisting with field activities for hydraulic and environmental studies; 2) utilizing field equipment and instrumentation to collect hydraulic and hydrologic data; 3) compiling data to assist with analysis and reporting; and 4) conveying ideas and information to individuals or groups.
OR
B.
Possess at least 1 year of graduate level education (18 semester hours, 27 quarter hours or the equivalent) in hydrology or other field of study directly related to the work of this position. This education has provided you with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of this position. (You must submit a copy of your transcripts)

To qualify at the GS-08:
A.
You must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent in difficulty and complexity to at least the GS-07 level in federal service (or equivalent) having demonstrated experience 1) conducting field activities for hydraulic and environmental studies; 2) utilizing field equipment and instrumentation to collect hydraulic and hydrologic data; 3) compiling data to provide input for analysis and reporting; and 4) conveying ideas and information to individuals or groups.
OR
B. Possess at least 2 full years of progressive graduate level education (36 semester hours, 54 quarter hours or the equivalent) or a master`s degree in hydrology or other field of study directly related to the work of this position. This education has provided me with the knowledge, skills and abilities to perform successfully the duties of this position. (You must include a copy of your transcripts)

To qualify at the GS-09:
A.
You must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent in difficulty and complexity to at least the GS-08 level in federal service (or equivalent) having demonstrated experience 1) conducting field activities for hydraulic and environmental studies; 2) utilizing field equipment and instrumentation to collect hydraulic and hydrologic data; 3) compiling data to provide input for analysis and reporting; and 4) conveying ideas and information to individuals or groups.
OR
B. Possess at least 2 full years of progressive graduate level education (36 semester hours, 54 quarter hours or the equivalent) or a master`s degree in hydrology or other field of study directly related to the work of this position. This education has provided me with the knowledge, skills and abilities to perform successfully the duties of this position. (You must include a copy of your transcripts)

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Education

This vacancy announcement allows substituting education for experience.
