The Chief Data Officer , located in the office of Data and Analytics is responsible for leading the long-range planning, integration, and dissemination of research and data analytics leading to actionable information and knowledge to support the OIG's mission.
As a Chief Data Officer, you will:
- Identify and integrate key issues affecting the Department of Veterans Affairs, including economic, social, technological, and administrative factors. Determine (1) what tools or dashboards should be initiated, eliminated, or curtailed; (2) allocate resources in support of specific projects; (3) the timing of initiating, eliminating, or curtailing particular tools and dashboards.
- Provide vision, leadership, and operational direction for strategic data mining and predictive analytics initiatives to deliver innovative tools in support of the OIG goals. Lead strategic planning and organization-wide training and development efforts to further data-analytics initiatives.
- Convene enterprise-wide data governance activities for the VA OIG related to data standardization, data quality, data education and culture, data analytics, and usage and presentation of data by bringing together key stakeholders from across the OIG, prioritizing issues to address, and developing and overseeing the execution of plans to modernize data.
- Provide vision, leadership, and operational direction for complex research activities involving issues related to veterans' health, benefits and other oversight topics.
- Lead the development of data-driven insights that inform strategic direction for the Office of Inspector General. Serve as principal advisor on issues related to data management, analytics, and transparency for the VA OIG.
Current career Senior Executives, QRB-certified graduates of SES candidate development programs, and individuals with SES reinstatement eligibility are not required to address the executive core qualifications. They are required to address the technical qualifications. All other applicants are required to address both the executive core qualifications and the technical qualifications.
The experience may have been gained in either the public, private sector or volunteer service.
To be qualified for this position, you must meet the basic educational and/or work experience requirements for Data Scientist positions in the federal government. These requirements are: A) A degree in mathematics, statistics, computer science, data science or field directly related to the position. The degree must be in a major field of study (at least at the baccalaureate level) that is appropriate for the position. Or B) A combination of education and experience with courses equivalent to a major field of study (30 semester hours/45 quarter hours) as shown in paragraph A above, plus additional education or appropriate experience.
