Duties

Help

  • Assists the Bureau Security Officer (BSO) in the management and day-to-day operational functions relating to OIG security matters.  
  • Contributes to development, implementation and management of the Bureau Security Program. 
  • Assists in advising on security needs and problems, interprets agency guidelines, and issues instructions on methods and procedures for application of security initiatives.
  • Supports the information security program with responsibility for protection of national security information, to include overseeing proper classification, labeling and handling of classified information. 
  • Provides briefings and trainings. 
  • Investigates security incidents.
  • Liaises with the Department of State Office of Diplomatic Security on a variety of matters to include serving as a point of contact on physical security infrastructure, equipment, and systems; and serving as a point of contact on personnel security, including security clearance processes, the Secure Compartmented Access Program, Department identification badges, etc. 
  • Supports the OIG Emergency Management Program, including serving in key emergency response roles, assisting with the development and maintenance of Occupant Emergency Plans and Continuity of Operations Plans.

Qualifications

Applicants must meet all the required qualification requirements described below by the closing date of this announcement.  NOTE: Applicants must meet time-in-grade and time after competitive appointment requirements, by the closing date of this announcement. Time-In-Grade Requirements: Federal applicants must have served 52 weeks at the next lower grade to satisfy time-in-grade restrictions, per 5CFR 300, Subpart F.

Applicants must have 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 level in the Federal service which provided the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the duties of the position. Qualifying specialized experience must demonstrate the following:

Experience executing either a security program or an emergency management program. Experience in both programs areas preferred.  Security management program experience must include responsibilities related to information protection, physical security and personnel security. Emergency management program experience must include responsibilities related to Occupant Emergency Planning. Experience in developing, interpreting and implementing security policies and procedures.

There is no substitute of education for specialized experience for the GS-13 position.
