Help

The U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) Office of Inspector General (OIG) is seeking a qualified applicant to temporarily fill our Supervisory Writer-Editor position located in the Office of Audit's Audit Support Division (ASD). As an ASD Supervisory Writer-Editor, you will:

  • Distribute work among the writer-editor team taking into account timeframes, workload, specialized skill, and professional development opportunities, and oversee progress and outputs to help ensure timeliness and quality.
  • Provide on-the-job training to less experienced writer-editors on USAID OIG policies, procedures, and style guides related to message development, writing, visuals, design, and other editorial support services.
  • Advise USAID OIG Office of Audit staff, ASD's Writer-Editor team, subject matter experts, and other clients on design, messaging, and editorial support for a variety of written products and make revisions and/or recommendations to improve logic, quality, and impact.
  • Ensure writer-editor representation at key meetings with teams, managers, and senior leaders on report focus, message, and progress.
  • Coordinate and contribute to the formulation, update, and application of publishing and content development policies, procedures, and guidelines.
  • Identify strategic priorities for the writer-editor team and USAID OIG communications and recommend approaches for implementation.
  • Foster collaboration, teamwork, and constructive communication between the writer-editor team and clients.
  • Fill the role as assigned writer-editor for select performance audits, to include message development, report writing, design and execution of visuals in line with template, editorial and visual style, formatting, accessibility, and other policy requirements before their release.
  • Help the writer-editor team and clients navigate changes to USAID OIG polices, processes, and preferences for message development, reporting, and other communications with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Coordinate, develop, and conduct formal and on-the job training for auditors and other OIG staff in message development, writing, revising drafts, visual presentation of routine or moderately complex data, and other topics related to publishing and content development.

Qualifications

GS-14: You must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-13 grade level in the Federal service.

I possess at least one year of specialized experience that includes; (1)Helping auditors and other subject matter experts write and revise audit reports and other OIG products by providing comprehensive writing, editing, and design support throughout the content development process; (2) Revising early draft documents for logic, clarity, and accuracy, and advise subject-matter-expert authors on options for improving overall presentation, organization, and messaging of information; (3) Participating in key meetings with teams, managers, and senior leaders on report focus, message, and progress; (4) Providing guidance and technical support in developing and revising visuals such as charts, tables, and infographics for audit reports, testimonies, presentations, and other OIG products; (5) Editing audit reports and other OIG products to comply with template, editorial and visual style, formatting, accessibility, and other policy requirements before their release; (6) Formulating, updating, and applying publishing and content development policies, procedures, and guidelines; (7)Developing and conducting formal and on-the job training for auditors and other OIG staff in message development, writing, revising drafts, visual presentation of routine or moderately complex data, and other topics related to publishing and content development;(8) Recommending and developing strategies to effectively communicate results of OIG's oversight work.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience relevant to the position's duties to be filled, including volunteer experience.

CTAP/ICTAP candidates will be referred to the selecting official if they are found well qualified. Well-qualified means an eligible employee who possesses the knowledge, skills, and abilities that clearly exceed the position's minimum requirements. A well-qualified employee must meet the qualification and eligibility requirements of the position, including any medical qualifications, suitability, and minimum education and experience requirements, meet all selective factors (where applicable); meet quality ranking factors and are assigned a score of 85 or higher; be physically qualified with reasonable accommodation to perform the essential duties of the position; meet any special qualifying U.S. OPM-approved conditions; AND be able to satisfactorily perform the duties of the position upon entry without additional training.

Time-in-grade requirements must be met by the closing date. This means that you must have served at least 52 weeks at the next grade level (or equivalent) below the grade advertised on this vacancy announcement.
