Duties

Help
  • Prioritize incidents and communicates trends or significant issues to the Patient Safety Manager.
  • Manage the facility incident reporting system under the over-sight of the Patient Safety Manager.
  • Serve as a member of the Military Treatment Facility (MTF) Patient Safety committee/functional management team and assists the Patient Safety Manager with preparation for the meetings.
  • Develop and deliver briefings of analysis results to hospital professional staff.
  • Participate in Healthcare Failure Mode and Effects Analysis, (HFMEA) / other proactive risk analyses, and Root Cause Analysis processes associated with facilities and operations.

  • Must possess and maintain a current Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support(ACLS) training and certifications from the American Heart Association or Military Training Network.
  • Current unrestricted licensure as a registered nurse in one of the 50 states or U.S. Territories.
  • This position is subject to screening and update of required immunizations unless exempted for medical or administrative reasons in accordance with Army Regulation 40-562, Chapters 3 and 4.
  • This position requires Basic Life Support training certification from, or in accordance with, the American Heart Association and American Red Cross. Current Advanced Life Support or other advanced certification does not supersede BLS completion.
  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position is subject to a pre-employment screening, and random testing thereafter, to include testing based on reasonable suspicion and testing due to direct involvement with an on-duty accident.
  • This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 5% of the time.
  • This position requires credentialing requirements and obtain and maintain appropriate/relevant clinical privileges
  • This position may be designated as inclement weather position, incumbent is expected to make every attempt to report for duty on time and/or remain on duty during severe weather conditions.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Basic Requirement for Nurse (Consultant/Patient Safety):

Degree: A graduate or higher-level degree, bachelor's degree, associate degree, or diploma from an accredited professional nursing educational program is required. This education must have been accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education, Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs, Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education, or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained.

Foreign Degree: Official certification from the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools is required for individuals who graduated from foreign nursing schools.

Licensure: A current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a professional nurse from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States; and you must have passed the National Council Licensure Examination.

Exemption: You are exempt from the basic requirements above if you are a current federal employee occupying a position in the 0610 occupational series and have been continuously employed in this occupational series since September 27, 2017 or before. Applicants claiming this exemption must meet the requirement below. Note: You will be required to provide appropriate documentation to the respective Human Resources Office to validate your status.

In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:

Education and Experience: Possession of a diploma, associate's degree, bachelor's degree, or master's degree from a professional nursing educational program and at least one full year of professional nursing experience (equivalent to the GS-9 grade level).

Professional Nursing Experience is defined as: One year of experience which includes providing comprehensive nursing care to ambulatory patients, providing staff or patient education, and evaluating the performance of subordinates.

OR

Education Substitution: Successful completion of a PhD or equivalent doctoral degree from a professional nursing educational program or related medical science field.

Education

FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
