Help

As a Supervisory Economist (Enforcement), you will:

  • Develop both short- and long-term strategies related to employing economic and data analytics in enforcement investigations and litigation.
  • Serve as senior internal expert responsible for providing guidance and explanation about technical strategies to management, attorneys, and economists to help them understand key aspects of products or services at issue in investigation and litigation.
  • Provide expert advice, recommendations, conclusions, and findings to senior management and Bureau staff who draw legal conclusions based on the facts developed during the course of investigations or litigation regarding advanced economic, analytical, mathematical, or statistical theories, principles, concepts, methods, and techniques related
    to statistical analysis, parametric and non-parametric analysis, computer modeling, decision theory, mathematical programming, regression analysis, and economic analysis.
  • Identify emerging issues and make recommendations on potential policy or investigative approaches.

The Bureau is currently offering expanded telework opportunities to all staff. Additional work location and schedule flexibilities will be available to Bureau staff starting in the fall of 2022.

Qualifications

You must meet the following requirements by the announcement's closing date.

Specialized Experience: You must have at least one year of specialized experience performing Economist functions equivalent to the CN-60 level (For qualification purposes, the CN-60 is broadly equivalent to the GS-14) that equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of this position. Specialized experience is defined as:

- Planning and executing economic research projects, using appropriate theoretical models, statistical and analytical techniques (such as statistical analysis, geospatial analysis, or predictive modeling; AND
- Using statistical packages, such as SAS, STATA, SPSS, Tableau, R or SQL; AND
- Conducting data and economic analyses on topics related to consumer financial markets; AND
- Compiling and analyzing macro data sets to construct tables or graphs that capture key findings; AND
- Leading or supervising a staff or team members.

The experience may have been gained in either the public, private sector or volunteer service. One year of experience refers to full-time work; part-time work is considered on a prorated basis. Education

Education Requirements:

Basic Requirements: Degree: Economics, that included at least 21 semester hours in economics and 3 semester hours in statistics, accounting, or calculus.

OR Combination of education and experience -- courses equivalent to a major in economics, as shown above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.

Examples of qualifying experience include:

1. Individual economic research assignments requiring planning, information assembly, analysis and evaluation, conclusions and report preparation;

2. Supervisory or project coordination assignments involving a staff of professional economists, and requiring the evaluation and interpretation of economic information; OR

3. Teaching assignments in a college or university that included both class instruction in economics subjects and one of the following (1)personal research that produced evidence of results, (2) direction of graduate theses in economics, or (3) service as a consultant or advisor on technical economics problems.

Experience in related fields that did not involve the use and understanding of economic principles and theories may not be used as qualifying experience for these positions. Special attention on this point should be given to certain types of work that may or may not have provided professional economic experience. The following examples of work require special care in such determinations:

1. Economic Statistics;
2. Industrial Surveys;
3. Management of Individual Business Enterprises, Including Farms;
4. Industrial Planning;
5. Writing or Editorial Work in Economic Subjects; AND
6. Financial Market Analysis. The education must be from an accredited (or pre-accredited) college or university recognized by the U.S. Department of Education
