Help
  • Coordinates medical support services as related to all program requirements such as chronic disease, health promotion, and treatment of illnesses/injuries, job-related physical examinations, and administrative medical screening.
  • Monitors civilian employees for effects of hazardous exposures.
  • Refers employees for follow up with their personal health care providers.
  • Develops a medical surveillance packet for designated and identified employees for required examinations, labs and special test as they relate to potential workplace hazard exposures.
  • Reviews exams, lab, and special tests provided by the vender clinics and writes a determination sheet for the supervisor.
  • Provides a comprehensive Occupational Health Nurse (OHN) Program.
  • Coordinates with the safety and public health offices to facilitate a comprehensive occupational health educational program.
  • Consults with other health care professionals and provides supervisory training and new employees' orientation sessions.
  • Provides job site health hazard awareness/prevention classes or other training as needed or as required utilizing personal passenger vehicle or government vehicle.
  • Secures and maintains all employee occupational health medical records and records database.
  • Utilizes the database in order to facilitate early and accurate identification of significantly exposed civilian employees.
  • Serves as the subject matter expert (SME) and Technical Lead on all OH contracts for the District/Center.
  • Serves as the District/Field Operating Activity Drug Program Coordinator (District/FOA DPC).
  • Coordinates medical management of civilian employees for occupational and non-occupational illness/injuries.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Incumbent is required to possess or obtain a valid state driver's license.
  • Incumbent must obtain Basic Life Support (BLS)/Basic Certified Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification within six months of appointment and maintain certification.
  • Incumbent must obtain CPR instructor training certification within one year of appointment and maintain certification.
  • Incumbent must be screened for applicable immunizations based on occupational risk and subject to receiving missing/required immunizations in accordance with Army Regulation 40-562, Chapters 3 and 4.
  • This position is covered by the Civilian Drug Abuse Testing Program. Incumbent is required to sign a DA Form 5019-R, and/or DA Form 7412. This position is subject to pre-employment drug testing and random drug testing IAW EP-600-1-3.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience and education requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Basic Requirement for Nurse (Occupational Health):

Degree: A graduate or higher level degree, bachelor's degree, associate degree, or diploma from an accredited professional nursing educational program is required. This education must have been accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education, Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs, Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education, or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.).

Licensure: A current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a professional nurse from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States; and you must have passed the National Council Licensure Examination.

Foreign Degree: A degree from a Foreign Nursing School. Official certification from the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools is required for individuals who graduated from foreign nursing schools.

Exemption: You are exempt from the basic requirements above if you are a current federal employee occupying a position in the 0610 occupational series and have been continuously employed in this occupational series since September 27, 2017 or before. Applicants claiming this exemption must meet the requirement below. Note: You will be required to provide appropriate documentation to the respective Human Resources Office to validate your status.

Degree or diploma from a professional nursing program approved by the legally designated State accrediting agency at the time the program was completed by the applicant.

Active, current registration as a professional nurse in a State, District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.

In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:

Professional Nursing Experience: One or more full years of professional nursing experience which includes providing occupational health services; reviewing treatment plans for medical necessity and/or access to care; coordinating with health care providers to resolve problems; and providing training courses on job site health hazard awareness and prevention or similar topics. This definition of professional nursing experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service GS-11.

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.

Education

FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
