Summary

The NextGen Outreach Division (ANG-M2) of the NextGen Collaboration and Messaging Directorate (ANG-M) analyzes data to improve community engagement and outreach. It also plans and implements the communications strategy for the NextGen organization. As a Communications Specialist in the Messaging and Updates Branch, the incumbent supports the communication strategy.

Duties

Help

This position is located in the Office of the Assistant Administrator for NextGen, ANG-1; NextGen Collaboration and Messaging Office, ANG-M; Outreach Division, ANG-M2; Messaging and Updates Branch, ANG-M22.

Performs multiple and varying assignments under the limited direction of the NextGen Messaging and Updates Branch (ANG-M22) manager under the Outreach Division and will collaborate with other team members, including project managers, web designers, graphics specialists, photographers, videographers, writers, and editors.

Creates high-impact products to support the communications strategy. Takes on writing assignments, such as news articles, video scripts, web pages, reports, talking points, speeches, presentations, and for exhibits. Edits products for accuracy and ensures the text is free of grammar, spelling, and punctuation errors. Assists in the development of graphic and video content.

Tracks assignment status and monitors metrics for the branch’s programs, and archives and maintains copies of final work in the branch’s digital library. These assignments often involve researching and verifying information, and interviewing sources.

Identifies, plans, and organizes resources to complete assignments on schedule with limited supervision. May identify and request additional resources, as needed.

Applies experience and advanced knowledge of written and oral communications to plan and accomplish assignments. Assignments may require knowledge and experience working across functional and/or organizational lines.

Contacts are internal and external. Meets with internal organizations, as well as external constituents, regarding project specifications, including content, graphic direction, materials selection, timelines, and media requirements, to develop clear, accurate, and error-free content. Works with managers and more experienced professionals to solve problems and modify products as they undergo review before publication.

May advise and guide others on how to apply communications policies and procedures. Continually builds on knowledge of the FAA and the aviation community by attending agency or industry-related events, symposiums, and conferences.

Resolves most problems and work issues without the assistance of a manager, project/program manager, team leader, or more experienced professional. Refers to managers and professionals who are more experienced problems that require their attention. May help them develop and recommend solutions.

Work is reviewed periodically, typically at major milestones and at completion, for policy compliance and alignment with the requirements of projects and/or other work activities.

To qualify for this position you must demonstrate in your application that you possess at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to FV-G, FG/GS 10/11. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position.

Specialized experience may include but not limited to: Experience writing articles, video scripts, web pages, reports, talking points, speeches, presentations and exhibits to support a communication strategy for a technical organization.
