As a Health Physicist in the Division of Materials Safety, Security, State and Tribal Programs, Office of Nuclear Material Safety and Safeguards, you will coordinate and implement licensing, inspections, and rulemaking activities related to the medical use of by-product materials. Assists in the Implementation of Commission regulatory policies, procedures, criteria, and guides for regulating the use of radioactive materials related to sealed sources and devices and other byproduct material uses.
Such duties include but are not limited to:
To ensure compliance with an applicable preliminary nationwide injunction, which may be supplemented, modified, or vacated, depending on the course of ongoing litigation, the NRC will take no action to implement or enforce the COVID19 vaccination requirement pursuant to Executive Order 14043 on Requiring Coronavirus Disease 2019 Vaccination for Federal Employees. The NRC will request information regarding the vaccination status of selected applicants for the purposes of implementing other workplace safety protocols, such as protocols related to masking, physical distancing, testing, travel, and quarantine.
You must meet the qualifications for this position by no later than 30 calendar days after the closing date of this announcement and before placement in the position.
In order to qualify for this position, you must have at least one year of specialized experience at the next lower grade level in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector.
The ideal candidate will possess:
1. Broad and extensive knowledge of NRC goals, mission, regulations, policies, and procedures related to the NRC’s licensing, inspection and implementation of regulatory programs pertaining to the medical use of byproduct material (e.g., 10 CFR Part 35, Medical Use of Byproduct Material, or related Agreement States medical regulations).
(Describe specific education, experience, training, and accomplishments which demonstrate your knowledge of the regulatory requirements, programs and policies with regard to regulating the medical use of byproduct material.)
2. Knowledge of the principles and theories in the fields of health physics, including but not limited to radiation physics, radiation biology, internal and external dosimetry, radiation detection and measurement and/or medical health physics.
(Describe specific education, training, and experience which demonstrate in-depth knowledge of health physics including internal and external dosimetric models.)
3. Demonstrated ability to establish effective working relationships with peers, co-workers, and various levels of management both inside and outside the agency.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE is experience that demonstrates extensive technical knowledge of the radiological health and safety aspects relating to the regulation of NRC-licensed facilities. At least one year of this experience must be at the next lower grade level or equivalent.

The duty location of this position is Rockville, MD. In general, employees are expected to be in the office 4 days per pay period. Telework schedules are approved, on a case-by-case basis. If selected, telework will be determined in accordance with Agency policy and the Collective Bargaining Agreement, if applicable.
