Duties

Help

Major duties for this position at the GS-13 level include but are not limited to the following:

  • Reviews proposed ergonomics violations, citations, and abatement recommendations made by field personnel to verify that the policy, procedure, and guidelines provided in the Field Operations Manual have been adhered to and correctly applied. Provides subject matter expertise in complex or unique cases.
  • Reviews proposed drafts of new ergonomic enforcement policies.
  • Monitors professional journals, and other national occupational safety and health workgroups and committees for findings, industry consensus, and identifies new methods, techniques, or best practices in ergonomic occupational safety and health.
  • Reviews reports, follows abatement progress/results, monitors industry publications (trade journals, newsletters, academic publications, etc.). Develops and collects lessons learned and field recommendations.
  • Compiles data and information obtained through literature searches in the OSHA Computerized Information System as needed to respond to inquiries on technical information
  • Monitors other national occupational safety and health workgroups and committees on ergonomics for findings, industry consensus, and identifies new methods, techniques, or best practices in ergonomics for OHE.
  • Responds to requests for support of initiatives, programs, and other activities and efforts to promote or improve occupational safety and health compliance.
  • Participates in seminars, conferences, and committees and workgroups to discuss new technology impact on actual ergonomic occupational safety and health.
  • Supports presentations on behalf of OSHA to other federal enforcement stakeholders and the OSH/OSHA Community of Interest.

Qualifications

Basic Requirements

Education

Bachelor’s or graduate/higher level degree: major study in an academic field related to the medical field, health sciences or allied sciences appropriate to the work of the position. This degree must be from an educational program from an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education (external link) at the time the degree was obtained.

In Additional to meeting the basic requirements above, all applicants must show 52 weeks of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 Grade Level:

To qualify for the GS-13 grade level, applicants must have 52 weeks of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 level, specialized experience is defined as experience developing concepts, methods, approaches and processes for the enforcement of ergonomic occupational health and safety requirements and regulations.

Education

Any applicant falsely claiming an academic degree from an accredited school will be subject to actions ranging from disqualification from federal employment to removal from federal service.
