Oversee management and continued internal development of the Museum's collection information system (Gallery Systems, TMS). Based on a thorough knowledge of museum functions; plan, coordinate, and implement all activities necessary for the effective operation, use, development, and maintenance of the database.
Assist in the development of consistent museum authority standards for content and assesses external authority standards for relevance and incorporation into TMS.
Produce reports on an ad hoc basis in response to queries from staff, fellows, researchers, and the general public.
Coordinate development of policies, procedures and workflows for the creation, storage and use of digital assets and digital descriptive data within TMS. Develop mechanisms and metrics to measure the effectiveness of NASM's digitization efforts.
Develop and provide a multi-faceted training program for museum staff of individual instruction, classroom sessions and telephone support.
Document all aspects of the system including proper field usage, data entry standards, terms, and vocabulary used in the NASM implementation of TMS.

Qualifications
Specialized Experience: Experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the normal line of progression for the occupation. Applicants who have the 1 year of appropriate specialized experience, are not required to have general experience, education above the high school level, or any additional specialized experience to meet the minimum qualification requirements.
For this position, specialized experience is defined as:
GS-11: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-09 level in the Federal service or comparable pay band system related to the work of this position. This specialized experience is defined as: Utilizing a museum collection information system (such as Gallery Systems-The Museum System (TMS)); assisting in the management of a training program of individual instruction, classroom sessions and telephone support; and assisting in the coordination of digital assets;
OR;
Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree;
OR;
3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree;
OR;
LL.M., if related;
OR;

GS-12: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-11 level in the Federal service or comparable pay band system related to the work of this position. This specialized experience is defined as: Managing a museum collection information system (such as Gallery Systems-The Museum System (TMS)); lead a training program of individual instruction, classroom sessions and telephone support; and administer the structure and standards of digital assets to ensure efficient management and broad utility to end users.

Knowledge of database management including skill in applying analytical and evaluative methods and techniques. Requires knowledge of relational database systems (e.g. The Museum System (TMS), Microsoft SQL Server 2017, and Microsoft Access) within a museum context including data structure, standards, and reporting needs.
Knowledge of museum collection classification schema and Revised Nomenclature for Museum Cataloging to improve standardization and accuracy of data.
Skill in using report writing tools (e.g. Crystal Reports and/or SQL Server Reporting Services) and generating reports from databases.
Knowledge of current digital media formats and encoding standards for the purpose of digitizing the museum collection.
Ability to communicate verbally in a clear, concise manner with staff to explain policies and procedures, to corroborate or provide information and to solicit cooperation on work matters.
Ability to communicate effectively in writing to train staff effectively and to communicate clear, comprehensive documentation of standards, procedures, and aids for properly using relational databases.
