Summary

This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Competitive Service Positions to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.

About the Position: Works under the supervision of the Chief, Water Management Section, who issues assignments in general terms as to work methods, time limitations, priorities, and objectives to be achieved.

NOTE: May be select at either the GS-05, GS-06, GS-07, GS-08, GS-09, or GS-10 grade level.

Help
  • Uses the Corps Water Management System (CWMS) software suite for the preparation and maintenance of necessary real-time meteorological, hydrologic, hydraulic, and limnologic data.
  • Prepare hydrologic, water quality and climatological data/tabulations for various hydrologic and water management investigations and studies in connection with water control and drought contingency plans.
  • Installing and maintaining stream gauges, rain gauges and data collection platforms.
  • Supports the execution of water quality surveys.
  • Maintain, calibrate, and use a variety of manual and electronic devices to remotely acquire data.

Minimum Qualifications for GS-05
Specialized Experience: One year of general experience which includes 1) Utilize electrical systems and tools for stream gage calibration and repairs 2) Utilize tools and equipment to perform preventative maintenance or 3) Collect field data used to prepare reports. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-04).

OR
Education: Four year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.)

OR
Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of education beyond two years (total semester hours minus 60) by 60. Add the two percentages. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.)


Minimum Qualifications for GS-06
Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes 1) Install stream gauging stations to obtain flow measurements 2) Maintain electronic devises to acquire data, or 3) Utilize electronic devises to collect hydrographic survey data.This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05).

OR
Education: A half year (i.e., 9 semester hours) of graduate level education in a field directly related to the work of the position, such as engineering, industrial technology, construction drafting, surveying, physical science, biology, or mathematics. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.)

OR
Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) by 9. Add the two percentages. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.)


Minimum Qualifications for GS-07
Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes 1)Take water measurements from a variety of flow instrumentation, 2) Operate a variety of hydrologic measuring instruments or 3) Obtain water quality data from designated locations. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06).

OR
Education: One full year of graduate level education in a field directly related to the work of the position. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.)

OR
Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) by 18. Add the two percentages. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.)

Minimum Qualifications for GS-08
Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes 1) Maintain equipment used to gage stream flow information, 2) Monitor existing gage structures; 3) Compile hydrologic field data for use in reports or 4) verify hydrologic data for completeness. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07).

OR

Education: One and a half years of graduate level education in a field directly related to the work of the position. One and a half years of full-time graduate level education is considered to be the number of credit hours that the school attended has determined to represent 1.5 years of full time study. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.) OR

Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the first year (total semester hours minus 18) by 9. Add the two percentages.(Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.)

Minimum Qualifications for GS-09
Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes 1) Operate equipment related to hydrology such as stream gaging instrumentation; 2) Maintain gages of varying types; 3) analyze hydrologic data for use in reports. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-08).

OR

Education: Two full years of graduate level education or a master's degree in a major directly related to the work of the position. Two years of full-time graduate level education is considered to be the number of full-time study. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.)

OR

Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the first year (total semester hours minus 18) by 9. Add the two percentages.(Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.)

Minimum Qualifications for GS-10
Specialized Experience: I have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-09 grade level in the Federal service which includes 1) monitor the operation and maintenance of stream gaging instrumentation; 2) Collect data related to hydrographic surveying; 3) conduct field investigations to monitor existing gage structures or 4) Install data collection platforms to assure complete and reliable data is collected.

Education

GS-07 Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-06).

GS-08 Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-07).

GS-09 Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-08).

GS-10 Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-09).
