Duties

Help
  • Coordinate and lead multiple mapping projects for the Branch of Geospatial Services and serves as the geospatial expert.
  • Works actively to bring consistency, efficiency, and effectiveness to all geospatial data across BOGS and the BIA.
  • Works with a diverse group of resources specialists, planners, and managers to coordinate and implement geospatial applications and incorporate GIS resource data into a range of local planning documents and processes.
  • Work closely with various stakeholders such as Tribes, States, other federal agencies, Regional Geospatial Coordinators and other BIA divisions on various mapping projects.
  • Assists in the development of GIS dashboards, webapps and maps for divisions in the Office of Trust Services.
  • Assists in the integration of Enterprise GIS with long- and short-term planning and management activities.

Qualifications

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS: (OPM Operating Manual, Qualification Standards for Administrative and Management Positions, GS-0301).

GS-11: At least one year of specialized experience or the equivalent, comparable to at least the GS-09 in the Federal Service (obtained in either the public or private sector). Specialized experience involves knowledge and understanding of the principles of cartography, geography, geospatial information systems & technology and the theoretical foundations and methods. Assists in the development of Edashboards, webapp, and maps. Assists in the integration of Enterprise GIS with long- and short-term planning and management activities. Work closely with various stakeholders on various mapping projects of geospatial technology and remote sensing sufficient to serve the future geospatial requirements relative to the technology and services to be made available.
OR
Have completed 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education or a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree in a field of study that is directly related to the duties of this position. Note: Applicants who select this response must provide transcripts as verification of their education.


GS-12: At least one year of specialized experience or the equivalent, comparable to at least the GS-11 in the Federal Service (obtained in either the public or private sector). Specialized experience is experience coordinating and providing specialized advice and guidance in cartography, geography, geospatial information systems and technology. This experience must demonstrate the following 1)researching, interpreting and applying geospatial theoretical and methodological practices; 2) identifying, obtaining and preparing documentation needed to plan, execute and record geospatial action. 3) communicating policies and procedures both orally and in writing on geospatial transactions.

Merit Promotion candidates must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the announcement closing date.

If you cannot obtain your graduate school's definition of one year of graduate study, 18 semester hours (or 27 quarter hours) should be considered as satisfying the requirement for one year of full-time graduate study.
