Summary

Due to the Pandemic and individual states with different phases of reopening, the selectee’s report date to the official duty station/facility may be delayed until such time as employees are allowed to report to the workplace. The person selected may telework up to the maximum extent possible, up to and including full time, until it is determined by state and Federal officials that employees are allowed to report to the workplace where this position is located, on a regular basis.

The student trainee/intern in this position will be responsible for performing administrative support work in related to management analysis and support, program analysis, process evaluation, and administrative analysis. Performs a mixture of routine and somewhat complex tasks under the general direction of a manager, project/program manager, team leader, or other more experienced employee. Work activities typically support the work of other employees and contribute to the activities of the organizational unit.

The intern is fully immersed in teams working on mission-related projects. Engages in meaningful learning and development activities while applying basic knowledge and limited experience in performing tasks. Assists manager and other employees in day-to-day operations by performing one or more of the following:

• Compiling and consolidating readily available data from prescribed sources;

• Recognizing and correcting obvious discrepancies and data omissions;

• Searching historical files for readily available background information such as recent staff or function changes, organizational charts, mission and function statements, and position descriptions;

• Designing and producing organizational and workflow charts using graphic design software based on information provided by higher level employees;

• Computing or verifying the accuracy of budget data and correct obvious mathematical errors;

• Entering, tracking and reconciling fiscal data using a variety of automation tools such as Delphi, US Band, Castle, Travel (E2);

• Ensuring that office handbooks, orders, directives are maintained and current;

• Maintaining and revising all filing systems, supplies, equipment, and publications; and,

• Using one or more established automated systems to enter, correct, and retrieve factual information, compile reports, and to produce charts and graphs.

Contacts are primarily internal to one organizational unit to share basic information and to receive guidance. In some areas, may have limited contacts with external customers.

Established policies/procedures provide detailed guidance for almost all assignments, with little or no room for discretion. Receives detailed instructions from and refers problems and work issues to a manager, project/program manager, team leader, or more experienced employee. Work is reviewed regularly during assignments and at completion to ensure timeliness and all aspects of quality.

Other features of the Gateways Internship Program

APPOINTMENT - If selected for the Gateways Internship, your internship appointment may not exceed a total of 120 days after graduation.

AGREEMENT: All participants must sign a written Gateways Internship Agreement with the FAA that clearly
identifies expectations of the appointment such as duties, length of appointment, work schedule, training, mentorship, etc.

CONVERSION: Although it is not guaranteed, an intern may be converted from the Internship program to a permanent excepted service appointment without further competition after successful completion of the educational program (awarding of degree), completion of a minimum of 640 hours of career- related work, required training, mentorship, and other requirements in accordance with the intern's participant agreement.

TERMINATION: Participation in this program may be terminated at any time.

TRANSCRIPTS: Must be submitted. If you do not submit your transcripts, your application will be considered incomplete and will not be given further consideration.

HOUSING: Housing is the responsibility of the applicant.

FV-C: To Qualify for the FV-C, you must show completion of 1 full academic year of post-high school study.

To qualify for this position, you must be enrolled in an accredited college or university in a program leading to a bachelor's degree or higher.

Qualifying Educational Institution is any high school, home school, technical, vocational, associate, bachelor, graduate or professional school curriculum that has been approved by a State or local governing body, and/or accredited body recognized by the Secretary of the U.S. Department of Education.
