This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of DoD to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.

Duties

Help
  • You will be directly responsible for all stream gauging and water qualify activities in an assigned geographical area.
  • You will either work independently or under the supervision of higher grade personnel while in remote locations.
  • You will take discharge readings and water quality samples while installing, inspecting, reading and maintaining a variety of gagues and automated recording devices.

  • Compressed work schedule of four, 10 hours days is mandatory. (Monday through Thursday)
  • Position involves working outdoors, in remote sites and in inclement weather conditions.

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or specialized experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience:
GS 05: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-04 level in the Federal service which includes: 1) assist to maintain and service hydrologic measuring instruments.

GS 06: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-05 level in the Federal service which includes: 1) taking water measurements and collecting samples from a variety of water stage and flow instrumentation AND, 2) operating, maintaining and servicing a variety of hydrologic measuring instruments.

GS 07: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-06 level in the Federal service which includes: 1) taking water measurements and collecting water samples from a variety of water stage and flow instrumentation AND, 2) operating, maintaining, and servicing a variety of hydrologic measuring instruments AND, 3) experience utilizing standard testing methods to obtain water quality data from designated locations.



Education

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone at the GS 06 and GS 07 level--no substitution of education for experience is permitted. Education as a substitute for experience is allowed at the GS 05 level.

GS 05: Education as a substitute for experience can be used if you have successfully completed a full 4-year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree (a) with major study in an appropriate field of engineering, construction, or industrial technology; or (b) that included at least 24 semester hours in any combination of courses such as engineering, engineering or industrial technology, construction, physics, drafting, surveying, physical science, biology or mathematics.

FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
