Basic Requirements
Degree: physical or natural science, or engineering that included at least 30 semester hours in any combination of courses in hydrology, the physical sciences, geophysics, chemistry, engineering science, soils, mathematics, aquatic biology, atmospheric science, meteorology, geology, oceanography, or the management or conservation of water resources. The course work must have included at least 6 semester hours in calculus (including both differential and integral calculus), and at least 6 semester hours in physics. Calculus and physics, as described above, are requirements for all grade levels.

Combination of education and experience: Course work as shown above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.

Specialized Experience: Specialized experience is experience directly related to the position to be filled. Specialized experience must be described for each grade level advertised. The specialized experience requirements for this position are: Qualifying experience for GS-09 includes one year of specialized experience comparable to GS-07 which is directly related to the work of this position and which has equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position. For this position, specialized experience is assisting higher level specialists with performing a variety of observations, computations, and analyses on hydrology, topography, vegetation, or soil data; and assisting with developing web based content, visualizations, or databases related to hydrology, engineering sciences, mathematics, or atmospheric sciences.
OR
Education: 2 years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to master's degree, or master's or equivalent graduate degree, if related. Related degrees may include hydrology, engineering sciences, mathematics, or atmospheric sciences.
OR
A combination of graduate education and specialized experience as described above.

Specialized Experience: Specialized experience is experience directly related to the position to be filled. Specialized experience must be described for each grade level advertised. The specialized experience requirements for this position are: Qualifying experience for GS-11 includes one year of specialized experience comparable to GS-09 which is directly related to the work of this position and which has equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position. For this position, specialized experience is experience planning and carrying out of routine hydrologic work; identifying, managing, or analyzing hydrology, topography, vegetation, or soil data; and writing scripts using programming languages to improve data processing, analysis, or publication.
OR
Education: 3 years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. degree or Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree, if related. Related degrees may include hydrology, engineering sciences, mathematics, or atmospheric sciences.
OR
A combination of Ph.D. education and specialized experience as described above.
