Major duties for this position include but are not limited to the following:

  • The incumbent implements predefined and precisely stated data collection and economic methods to prepare products for use in larger international economic research, studies, and analyses – demonstrating competent application of standard economic analysis techniques and defined data collection and economic methods.
  • Assists higher-graded employees in developing a plan or approach for international economic studies.
  • Identifies issues to be investigated through literature review and collects the appropriate economic data to describe a study area in sufficient detail to allow further analysis.
  • Follows predefined protocols from the Chief International Economist (CIE)  or designate to gather original data, obtain and review existing or historical data, and prepare large quantities of economic data for use by senior colleagues in ongoing research programs of the office.
  • Uses analytical models/computer programs to analyze and evaluate data – taking into account economic labor issues and
    policies.
  • Evaluates reports or report segments based on the accuracy and completeness of the implementation of those methodologies.
  • Maintains all extracted data and other contributions as directed by the CIE or designate in a transparent electronic filing system available to all Economic Research staff.

Qualifications

Basic Requirements:

  1. Degree: economics, that included at least 21 semester hours in economics and 3 semester hours in statistics, accounting, or calculus.

    or

  2. Combination of education and experience: courses equivalent to a major in economics, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.

In addition to the basic requirements of this position, applicants must also possess 52 weeks of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal Service or private sector. 

To qualify for the GS-09 grade level, applicants must have 52 weeks of specialized experience at the next lower grade level, GS-07. Specialized experience is defined as experience following detailed instructions to download and document economic data on labor force, gross domestic product, or international trade, and to create visual representations of those data;

OR

2 years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a master's degree or master's or equivalent graduate degree;

OR

Combination of education/experience.

To qualify for the GS-11 grade level, applicants must have 52 weeks of specialized experience at the next lower grade level, GS-09. Specialized experience is defined as experience implementing data collection and economic methods to prepare products for use in economic research, studies, and analyses - demonstrating competent application of standard economic and econometric analysis techniques. Your resume must specifically demonstrate this experience.

OR

3 years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. degree or Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree.

OR

Combination of education/experience.
