Assists in administering a program to Tribes, Indian landowners and users of Indian land in developing, utilizing, and managing their natural resources
Helps develop a program for the proper management and conservation of the natural resources including farmland, rangeland, timberland, wildlife habitat and recreation.
Responsible for the functions of assisting with the administration the RTRL program by proposed and implementing projects based on long-term land management objectives that sustain overall ecosystem health.
Relating to natural resources and RTRL issues, technically consults with Bureau and other federal, state, local, and other stakeholders on management, development, and implementation plans.
Coordinates and directs activities necessary for the protection of Indian trust resources as well as resources within the scope of established RTRL projects.
Coordinates and participates in the planning and implementation of prescribed fire and mechanical fuels reduction treatments. Ensures program targets are achieved, management objectives are met and mitigation measures are adequate.
Identifies potential invasive species that could harm the well-being of the natural resource.
Prepares technical reports and studies related to activities within the branch.

Qualifications
EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS: (OPM Operating Manual, Qualification Standards for Professional and Scientific Positions, and Individual Occupational Requirements for GS-0401: General Biological Science Series).
BASIC REQUIREMENTS FOR GS-0401 :
A. Degree: biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate for the position. - OR - B. Combination of education and experience-Courses equivalent to a major, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
ADDITIONAL EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: In addition to meeting the basic entry level qualification requirements, applicants must have the following:
GS-09: 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-7 grade level OR 2 years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a master's degree or equivalent graduate degree, if related. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSA's) to perform successfully the duties of the position, and is typically in or related to the position to be filled. Examples of specialized experience includes, but is not limited to, work involving preparing or advising on natural resources regulations and guidance; protecting sensitive habitats; ensuring that activities on public land are conducted in accordance with applicable laws; developing environmental reports and impact statements; developing and implementing land use plans; identifying problems associated with public and private land use; and coordinating the surveying, monitoring, analyzing, and evaluating of natural resources to permit multiple land uses while preserving the area's ecological viability.
