Duties

Help

Provides administrative and semi-technical related support to the supervisor, or manager, Aviation Safety Inspectors and Administrative Officer by utilizing advanced automation system tools relevant in the Safety Assurance System environment which includes, but is not limited to obtaining background data, preparing reports, reviewing applications, interviewing applicants, processing certificates, and maintaining technical and administrative files. Works under the general supervision of a Front Line Manager (FLM).

Processes FAA issued airman certificates such as ground instructor, flight instructor, mechanic, repairman, and flight engineer. Interviews applicants to determine qualifications for non-complex certificates. Processes FAA authorizations such as inspection authorization, aircrew program designee, and aerobatic competency. Processes FAA issued operator and air agency certificates such as air carrier, repair stations, and approved schools.

Examines applications and supporting documents for completeness, consistency of information, and assures correctness, if required.

Conducts FAA written examinations by assembling and distributing test materials, and following up to ensure corrective action is taken if necessary.

Researches appropriate handbooks, collects information, organizes material pertinent to meetings and training sessions such as pre-certification, examiner renewal, inspector authorization, and flight examiner and written test examiner indoctrinations. Conducts written test examiner training sessions when necessary.

Assists in interpreting and implementing newly modified agency directives relating to accident, incident, enforcement processing, and airmen/operator certification file processing. Determines necessary action and notification to assure staff is aware of latest changes.

Answers inquiries and advises organization personnel regarding the preparation of the unit’s technical work processes.

Researches, writes, and types non-technical and routine technical correspondence. Assists in composing more complex technical correspondence. Maintains, reviews, and revises form letters.

Receives, sorts, and distributes incoming correspondence, attaching background information when necessary. Responsible for maintaining correspondence control and suspense files. Reviews and assembles outgoing material for mailing.

Assists with interpreting and implementing newly modified agency directives relating to accident, incident, enforcement processing, and airmen/operator certification file processing. Determines necessary action and notification to assure staff is aware of latest changes. Answers inquiries from and advises organization personnel regarding the preparation of technical work.

Prepares reports (e.g., accident, incident, violation, recurring and special) by researching, requesting information, creating files, preparing control sheets, copying and distributing preliminary and final report documents, and reviewing for accuracy and completeness. Responsible for maintaining individual report logs including the assignment of report or control numbers. Responsible for researching and composing sections of reports, as directed.

Responsible for assigned administrative and technical files such as certificated operator and designee case files in accordance with agency directives. Determines need for new files, initiates action to create files, prepares file folders, dividers, and labels. Maintains administrative/technical library which includes orders, notices, FARs, Master Minimum Equipment Lists (MMELs), aircraft technical manuals and advisory circulars, etc. Assures that charts and office logs are kept current. Determines disposition of and deletes obsolete material or records in accordance with established guidelines.

Coordinates organization’s schedule with regard to inspector’s travel schedules, flight checks, exams and other itinerary.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position at the FG-6 level:

You must demonstrate in your application that you possess at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the FV-D or FG/GS-5 in the Federal Service. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position. Specialized experience may include researching, writing, typing non-technical and routine correspondence. Sorting and distributing incoming correspondence. Maintaining correspondence control and suspense files. Reviewing and assembling outgoing material for mailing. Maintaining files, general office support. Entering information into various automated programs.

To qualify for this position at the FG-7 level:

You must demonstrate in your application that you possess at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the FV-D or FG/GS-6 in the Federal Service. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position. Specialized experience may include assisting in composing complex technical correspondence, knowledge of agency directives and various agency policies governing technical programs, performing a variety of technical administrative work such as assisting in interpreting and implementing newly modified agency directives, managing records, providing tracking and validation support of funds for employee travel, researching technical data, analyzing complex information and interpreting directives.
