Summary

This position is located in the Security and Hazardous Materials Safety (ASH) organization, Office of Infrastructure Protection, Central Infrastructure Protection Division, Chicago Infrastructure Protection Branch, AXF-510. This position supports ASH in accomplishing mission-critical responsibilities and key agency goals and objectives in ensuring the protection of FAA facilities, national security information and/or secure telecommunications.

Also open to former permanent excepted service federal employees eligible under an interchange agreement. Current or former permanent federal employees must have met a one year probationary period or trial period in the competitive or excepted service. FV-H level: Typical duties include, but are not limited to, the following: Assists in conducting assessments, inspections and/or evaluations of programs, facilities, plan and design specifications and contracts to determine compliance with FAA security requirements and assist with conducting assessments, inspections and/or evaluations supporting the Classified National Security Information (CNSI), COMSEC and Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI) programs to ensure compliance with national security requirements. Assists in the evaluation of existing and proposed security practices and make recommendations to correct identified deficiencies. Performs analysis to determine the existence of actual or potential threats to life, property, assets and National Security Information on government-owned or leased property. Provides technical guidance and direction for evaluating security protection needs during normal operations and emergencies. Participates in evaluating and selecting the security measures most suitable for a particular type of facility. Recommends corrective actions to eliminate or reduce risk(s). Prepares and enters reports into the appropriate ASH databases.

Receives reports of incidents, accidents and thefts and follow up as necessary to provide information and training on how to prevent these events. Facilitates the implementation of processes and procedures to address security vulnerabilities. Provides technical guidance to FAA Lines of Business and facilities on development and/or modification of security plans to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements. Uses partnership concepts to develop mutual approaches to achieving security objectives. Perform other duties as assigned.

FV-I level: Typical duties include, but are not limited to, the following: Conduct assessments, inspections and/or evaluations of programs, facilities, plan and design specifications and contracts to determine compliance FAA security requirements and conduct assessments, inspections and/or evaluations supporting the Classified National Security Information (CNSI), COMSEC and Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI) programs to ensure compliance with FAA security requirements. Evaluate existing and proposed security practices and make recommendations to correct identified deficiencies. Provides technical guidance to FAA Lines of Business and facilities on the development and/or modification of security plans to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements. Uses partnership concepts to develop mutual approaches to achieving security objectives. Defines, plans, and organizes assigned resources to accomplish organizational objectives. Allocates resources to accomplish small work activities within established schedules. Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

For the FV-H level: You must demonstrate in your application that you possess at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the FV-G, FG/GS-5/9 levels. Specialized experience is that which has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. Examples of specialized experience may include, but are not limited to: Experience in participating in briefings, interpreting security requirements and preparing reports. Experience conducting assessments, inspections and/or evaluations of programs and facilities. Experience evaluating existing security practices and making recommendations based on identified deficiencies. Experience with providing information and training regarding security measures designed to safeguard personnel; prevent unauthorized access to equipment, facilities and documents; and safeguard them against espionage, sabotage and theft.

For the FV-I level: You must demonstrate in your application that you possess at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the FV-H, FG/GS-10/12 levels. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. Examples of specialized experience may include, but are not limited to: Experience in conducting briefings, interpreting security requirements and preparing reports. Experience in conducting assessments, inspections and/or evaluations of programs, facilities or plan and design specifications. To qualify for the FV-H level based on education, you must possess a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.M., if related, in an accredited college or university OR a combination of education and experience may be qualifying for this position.
