The U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) Office of Inspector General (OIG) is seeking a qualified applicant to fill our Writer-Editor position located in the Office of Audit's Audit Support Division (ASD).
As an ASD Writer-Editor, you will:

  • Help auditors and other subject matter experts write and revise audit reports and other OIG products by providing comprehensive writing, editing, and design support throughout the content development process.
  • Revise early draft documents for logic, clarity, and accuracy, and advise subject-matter-expert authors on options for improving overall presentation, organization, and messaging of information.
  • Participate in key meetings with teams, managers, and senior leaders on report focus, message, and progress.
  • Provide guidance and technical support in developing and revising visuals such as charts, tables, and infographics for audit reports, testimonies, presentations, and other OIG products.
  • Edit audit reports and other OIG products to comply with template, editorial and visual style, formatting, accessibility, and other policy requirements before their release.
  • Formulate, update, and apply publishing and content development policies, procedures, and guidelines.
  • Develop and conduct formal and on-the job training for auditors and other OIG staff in message development, writing, revising drafts, visual presentation of routine or moderately complex data, and other topics related to publishing and content development.
  • Recommend and develop strategies to effectively communicate results of OIG's oversight

FOR GS-13: One year of specialized experience at the GS-12 grade level or equivalent. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) providing comprehensive writing and editing (substantive and copyediting) support to subject-matter-expert authors of Federal audit reports (or comparable) throughout the content development process; (2) reviewing and revising written products to ensure compliance with writing principles, editorial style guides, formatting and design requirements, and established policies and procedures; (3) providing guidance and technical support for developing charts, diagrams, and other visuals to reinforce and clarify key messages; and (4) developing templates, tools, job aids, and/or training materials to help others efficiently develop effective print and digital communications. During the interview process, you may be asked to demonstrate certain skills through a short technical exercise.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience relevant to the position's duties to be filled, including volunteer experience.

CTAP/ICTAP candidates will be referred to the selecting official if they are found well qualified. Well-qualified means an eligible employee who possesses the knowledge, skills, and abilities that clearly exceed the position's minimum requirements. A well-qualified employee must meet the qualification and eligibility requirements of the position, including any medical qualifications, suitability, and minimum education and experience requirements, meet all selective factors (where applicable); meet quality ranking factors and are assigned a score of 85 or higher; be physically qualified with reasonable accommodation to perform the essential duties of the position; meet any special qualifying U.S. OPM-approved conditions; AND be able to satisfactorily perform the duties of the position upon entry without additional training.

A well-qualified candidate will not necessarily meet the definition of highly or best qualified when evaluated against other candidates who apply for a particular position. Education

EDUCATION REQUIREMENT: A. Education: Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Communications, English, Journalism, or a related field. -OR- B. Combination of Education and Experience: A minimum of 24 semester (36 quarter) hours of coursework in any area listed in option A, plus experience reviewing, editing, and producing documents in accordance with language, style, publication, format, presentation, classification, and sourcing standards, or a related area that demonstrates the ability to successfully perform the duties associated with this work. As a rule, every 30 semester (45 quarter) hours of coursework is equivalent to one year of experience. Candidates should show that their combination of education and experience totals 4 years. -OR- C. Experience: A minimum of 4 years experience reviewing, editing, and producing documents in accordance with language, style, publication, format, presentation, classification, and sourcing standards, or a related area that demonstrates the ability to successfully perform the duties associated with this work.
