Duties

Help

As a Statistician GS 1530 9/11/12, your typical work assignments may include:

  • Evaluating alternatives to determine the appropriate methodology and procedures for producing reliable data collection and content.
  • Selecting and modifying statistical techniques and methods to produce accurate and timely data.
  • Assisting higher graded statisticians and subject matter experts on statistical methodologies and data analysis.
  • Planning, researching, and implementing analytical projects requiring application of statistical theory related to immigration issues.
  • Establishing and maintaining a working relationship with operational components and other key stakeholders to accomplish work and provide advice on data-related issues.

Qualifications

Specialized Experience:

You qualify for the GS-09, if you possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-07 level in the federal service, or comparable experience not gained through federal service. For this position, specialized experience is defined as experience 1) analyzing administrative data or large datasets; 2) implementing analytical projects requiring application of statistical theory and techniques; and 3) evaluating statistical limitations of data. OR 2 years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a master's degree or master's or equivalent graduate degree. OR Combination of graduate level education and specialized experience as described above. This will be calculated using your resume and unofficial transcripts or a list of courses/course hours submitted with your application. NOTE: Only graduate education in excess of the first year may be used to qualify for the GS-09 level.

You qualify for the GS-11, if you possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-09 level in the federal service, or comparable experience not gained through federal service. For this position, specialized experience is defined as experience 1) developing analytical projects requiring application of statistical theory and techniques; 2) recommending new or improved methods for analyzing data; and 3) developing statistical approaches to address policy research questions. OR 3 years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. degree or Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree. OR Combination of graduate level education and specialized experience as described above. This will be calculated using your resume and unofficial transcripts or a list of courses/course hours submitted with your application. NOTE: Only graduate education in excess of the first two years may be used to qualify for the GS-11 level.

You qualify for the GS-12, if you possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 level in the federal service, or comparable experience not gained through federal service. For this position, specialized experience is defined as 1) managing studies that included multivariate analysis, factor analysis and forecasting of populations; 2) implementing improved methods of data management to include methods of data masking, data anonymization, and linking data across datasets using a variety of software packages and routines; and 3) presenting statistical findings clearly as main contributor to senior leadership and/or in public forums.
