Duties

Help

  • Assists in the effort to compile, review, and monitor metrics from various SF sources such as the computerized maintenance management system and SF Units.
  • Assists in managing special initiatives in SF, including collecting operation and maintenance manuals, historical documentation on Smithsonian Facilities, communication initiatives, and other special projects.
  • Assists in a variety of planning, design, writing, production, and related tasks associated with SF publications and web-based projects.
  • Utilizes word processing, database and spreadsheet software to collect, update, evaluate and reconcile information.
  • Applies the tools, principles, and techniques of library, archive and museum collections, including their digitization, organization and management, as well as their metadata standards.

Qualifications

Experience: You qualify for this position if you have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-7 level in the Federal Service or comparable pay band system. For this position specialized experience is defined as experience with collecting and analyzing data from various sources such as databases, written reports and key performance indicators. Experience must also include an understanding of data dashboards and their use, experience with maintaining, using, or creating a repository of data similar to a library.

OR

Education (You must submit transcripts if attempting to qualify via education): Two full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a master's or equivalent degree in fire protection engineering or engineering field related to the position may be substituted to meet the experience requirements.

You will be evaluated for this job based on how well you meet the qualifications above.

Your application will be evaluated first for the basic qualifications described above. The applications that meet the basic qualifications will be evaluated further against the following criteria:

  • Ability to conduct statistical assessments in organizations, including assembling, analyzing, preparing, and communicating assessment/analytical information to technical and non-technical staff.
  • Knowledge of tools and systems used to archive, collect, and report on digitization metrics and activities, including Unit Digitization Plans, and Unit Data Management Plans.
  • Ability to communicate in writing to assist in developing planning, design, writing, production, and related tasks associated with SF publications and web-based projects.
  • Ability to communicate orally to explain and implement the SF goals, objectives, knowledge and expertise through presentations and meetings.
  • Skill using automated database systems, spreadsheets, website maintenance programs, word processing programs, or other systems to manage and process work.

Applicants who meet or exceed minimum qualifications will be assigned to one of three category groups based on job-related criteria:

Best Category - Meets the minimum qualification requirements and excels in most of the job related competencies above.

Better Category - Meets the minimum qualification requirements and satisfies most of the job related competencies above.

Good Category - Meets the minimum qualification requirements, but does not satisfy most of the job related competencies above to a substantive degree.

This category rating process does not add veterans' preference points or apply the "rule of three", but protects the rights of veterans by placing them ahead of non-preference eligibles within each category. A selecting official may make selections from the highest quality category (Best Category) provided no preference eligible in that category is passed over to select a non-preference eligible in that category unless the requirements of 5 U.S.C. 3317(b) or 3318(b) are satisfied.
