The Nurse, located in the Office of Healthcare Inspections, conducts oversight, monitoring, and evaluation of Veterans Health Administration (VHA) quality improvement programs and the activities of the VA Office of the Medical Inspector. OHI reviews specialized VA treatment program, patient care, quality improvement activities, and Hotline allegations involving medical care issues to strengthen VA's health care programs for veterans and their families.

As a Nurse (Nurse Consultant), you will:

  • Assist the team leader in a broad range of quality improvement and health care program inspections and evaluations.
  • Plan, coordinate, and/or conduct extensive pre-inspection research, monitor team members progress, and provide guidance as needed.
  • Draft impactful written reports, executive summaries, and briefings.
  • Plan and schedule project briefings, to include pertinent legislative and regulatory information.
  • Provide accurate information through professionally delivered briefings to OIG leaders, Congressional stakeholders, and VHA managers and staff.

Qualifications

You must meet the following requirements by the closing date of this announcement.

Registration Requirement: Applicants must have active, current registration as a professional nurse in a State, District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.

AND

Education requirement: Degree or diploma from a professional nursing program approved by the legally designated State accrediting agency at the time the program was completed by the applicant.

AND

Specialized Experience: For the GS-13, you must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to GS-12 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position includes:

  • Experience providing clinical healthcare services requiring interpretation of various medical regulation and directives; AND
  • Experience conducting healthcare audits, inspections, or program evaluations; AND
  • Experience Identifying quality care issues and make recommendations in accordance with medical and nursing guidelines and regulations.

Education

Education: A degree or diploma from a professional nursing program approved by the legally designated State accrediting agency at the time the program was completed.

Note: Employees currently assigned to positions in this occupational series as of September 2017 will be considered to have met the basic requirements for the position occupied.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
- A one year probationary period may be required.
