As a Fish and Wildlife Biologist your duties will include, but are not limited to, the following:
Planning, evaluating, and conducting a wide variety of complex ecological investigations or inspections, involving complex land and water resource development projects, proposals, and/or license applications/renewals, to determine their impact upon fish and/or wildlife resources and habitats, and to ensure that legal standards and other requirements are met and implemented in a manner most beneficial to fish and/or wildlife resources;
Leading efforts in the development of review and processing of research/recovery permits and other documents in coordination with Federal, Tribal, and state agencies; and with other parties as required;
Developing comprehensive fish and/or wildlife mitigation or management plans to insure preservation, protection, and enhancement of fish and/or wildlife and their habitat for a geographic area having a variety of habitat conditions; and
Providing technical assistance and regulatory information to other Service Programs and agencies (Federal, Tribal, and state) to properly satisfy requirements of the ESA, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), and other Federal and state legislation/regulations.

Qualifications

In order to qualify for this position you must possess both the Basic Requirement and Minimum Qualification.
Basic Requirement:
Degree: biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position; OR
Combination of education and experience: Courses equivalent to a major, as shown above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
Minimum Qualification [GS-09]
1 year of specialized experience, equivalent to at least the GS-07 grade level in the Federal service. Examples of specialized experience may include: assisting with and participating in conducting scientific studies, to include communicating with other participants; analyzing biological data to make conclusions about the effects of various federal and non-federal environmental programs; and assisting with and participating in conservation planning; OR
2 years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a master's degree or master's or equivalent graduate degree in a discipline directly related to the position; OR
A combination of specialized experience and graduate education as described above that, when combined, equals 100% of the total requirement.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.
