Summary

About the Position: This position is located at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, Director for Surgery, Department of OB/GYN, Ambulatory OB/GYN in Building 9 room 2372. This position is the nursing supervisor for the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology. Work schedule hours are Monday-Friday 7:30am-4:00pm. Parking at WRNMMC is very limited and is primarily first come, first serve. The use of commuting alternatives is highly recommended.

Duties

Help
  • Responsible for coordination of women?s gynecological wellness and disease prevention,preconception, obstetric, acute and chronic gynecological diagnosis.
  • Assess health care needs of a variety of patients, present both obstetric and gynecological problems, to include physiologic parameters; recognize abnormalities, and immediately taking appropriate action.
  • Establish criteria and evaluates/assesses effectiveness of patient treatment.
  • Interpret and ensure compliance with established policies, procedures, and standards of care and practice.
  • Assist the attending physician and is responsible for managing the patient appointment schedule.
  • Provide support, counseling, guidance, and health teaching to optimize therapies, intervention, and adherence to plan of care.
  • Supervise all activities of the nursing staff, including CNAs, LPNs and RNs.
  • Identify and provide developmental and training needs of employees.
  • Plan/assign work to be accomplished by subordinates and prepare schedules for completion of work.
  • Evaluate work performance of subordinates and give advice, counsel, or instruction to employees on both work and administrative matters.
  • Listen and resolve complaints from employees and refer group grievances/serious unresolved complaints to a higher level supervisor or manager.
  • Impact minor disciplinary measures, such as warnings and reprimands.
  • Directly responsible for ongoing Joint Commission preparedness.
  • Coordinate and implement Women?s Health Promotions through the year.

  • This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Tier 3 security investigation or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
  • This position requires the incumbent to have tuberculosis testing.
  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.

  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
  • This position requires the incumbent to fulfill credentialing requirements and obtain and maintain appropriate/relevant clinical privileges.
  • This position has been designated ?Mission Essential?. In the event of severe weather conditions or emergency situations (natural or man-made) the incumbent is required to report as scheduled or remain at work to support mission operations.
  • This position requires that you obtain and maintain a Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

In order to qualify, you must meet the requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Basic Requirement for Supervisory Nurse (Clinical/OB/GYN):

Degree: A graduate or higher level degree, bachelor's degree, associate degree, or diploma from an accredited professional nursing educational program is required. This education must have been accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education, Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs, Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education, or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.).

Licensure: A current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a professional nurse from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States; and you must have passed the National Council Licensure Examination.

Foreign Degree: A degree from a Foreign Nursing School. Official certification from the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools is required for individuals who graduated from foreign nursing schools.

Exemption: You are exempt from the basic requirements above if you are a current federal employee occupying a position in the 0610 occupational series and have been continuously employed in this occupational series since September 27, 2017 or before. Applicants claiming this exemption must meet the requirement below. Note: You will be required to provide appropriate documentation to the respective Human Resources Office to validate your status.

Degree or diploma from a professional nursing program approved by the legally designated State accrediting agency at the time the program was completed by the applicant.

Active, current registration as a professional nurse in a State, District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.

In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:

Professional Nursing Experience: One or more full years of professional nursing experience which includes direct nursing care to patients in a Women's Health or Obstetrics and Gynecology (OB/GYN) clinic setting; assisting with Obstetrics & Gynecology clinical procedures; formulating patient care plans; and conducting initial and prenatal assessments. This definition of professional nursing experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11).

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.



Education
