Summary

About the Position: As a Hydrologic Technician, with the Vicksburg District, Engineering and Construction Division, Modeling, Mapping and Consequences Center, Hydraulic Branch, Water Management Section, you will work under the supervision of the Chief, Water Management Section.

(NOTE: Management may select at the GS-05, GS-06 or GS-07 grade level.)
(NOTE: This position has promotion potential to the GS-11 grade level.)

Duties

Help
  • Using the Corps Water Management System (CWMS) software suite for the preparation and maintenance of necessary real time meteorological, hydrologic, and limnologic data.
  • Prepare hydrologic, water quality and climatological data/tabulations for various hydrologic and water management investigations and studies in connection with water control and drought contingency plans.
  • Installing and maintaining stream gauges, rain gauges and data collection platforms.
  • Serve as team lead for execution of water quality surveys.
  • Maintain, calibrate, and use a variety of manual and electronic devices to remotely acquire data.

  • This position requires a valid state issued motor vehicle driver's license.
  • This position requires that the incumbent must obtain and maintain a valid Corps of Engineers boat operator's license for boats up to and including 26 feet.
  • This position requires that you lift up to 40 pounds.
  • This position requires the incumbent to use or the learn to use a computer keyboard and mouse, and manipulate parts and use small hand tools.
  • This position requires that you travel as a driver or passenger in a vehicle or motorized vessel or skill and work near water

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Specialized Experience GS-05: One year of specialized experience which includes 1) experience with electrical systems and tools for stream gage calibration and repairs 2) use of power tools and equipment or 3) experience with field data collection. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-04).
OR

Education: Four year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree.
OR

Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of education beyond two years (total semester hours minus 60) by 60. Add the two percentages.

Specialized Experience GS-06: One year of specialized experience which includes 1) installing stream gauging stations 2) maintain electronic devises to acquire data or 3) experience with flow measurement collection. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05).
OR

Education: A half year (i.e., 9 semester hours) of graduate level education in a field directly related to the work of the position, such as engineering, industrial technology, construction drafting, surveying, physical science, biology, or mathematics.
OR

Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) by 9. Add the two percentages.

Specialized Experience GS-07: One year of specialized experience which includes 1) installing stream gauging stations 2) maintain electronic devises to acquire data or 3) experience with flow measurement collection and 4) collection of hydrographic survey data. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06).
OR

Education: One full year of graduate level education in a field directly related to the work of the position.
OR

Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) by 18. Add the two percentages.
