Joining the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) means being part of the team focused on securing the Nation's physical and cyber infrastructure against threats to public health and safety, economy, and national security. Within CISA, the Cybersecurity Division leads cybersecurity efforts for CISA as the Nation's flagship civilian cyber defense organization. The division collaborates with partners across the government and private sector to enhance the Nation's cybersecurity by sharing information, providing cybersecurity services and technical assistance, as well as through education and awareness.

In this position, you will serve as the senior most expert on a team comprised of threat analysts, technical analysts, computer network defense analysts, incident response analysts, and incident managers.Typical work assignments include:

  • Providing leadership, direction, and guidance for a multifunctional cyber operations team responsible for defending critical US information systems and technical assets
  • Coordinating cybersecurity activities across multiple disciplines to ensure that US assets are adequately secured against technical threats in cyberspace.
  • Leading cybersecurity threat evaluation activities and ensures that plans are in place to defend against those threats.
  • Leading cybersecurity defense activities including the maintenance of indicators in intrusion detection and prevention systems, the evaluation of anomalous activities in network traffic, and the reporting of detected incidents and suspicious activity to relevant stakeholders.
  • Leading incident response activities including forensic collection of images and artifacts, analysis of resulting data, and development of remediation and mitigation recommendations.
  • Providing senior leadership with situational awareness on priority cyber defense actions and ensure that leaders are able to make informed decisions during critical events.
  • Deconflicting and prioritizing actions taken by their team to ensure that efforts are coordinated and in alignment with strategic goals.

Qualifications

You qualify for the GS-15 grade level (starting salary $126,810.00) if you possess information technology related experience demonstrating each of the four required competencies:

  1. Attention to Detail: evaluating information technology (IT) for changes in processes that may impact program execution.
  2. Customer Service: advising technical specialists and experts throughout the IT community on critical IT issues.
  3. Oral Communication: assessing IT risks and communicate development/implementation strategies to stakeholders.
  4. Problem Solving: evaluating organization operations and developing changes to internal procedures.
In ADDITION to the above requirement you must have at least one year of specialized experience at the GS-14 grade level performing the following duties:
  1. Developing strategic and operational-level plans to support cyber operations.
  2. Assessing the capabilities and activities of cybersecurity criminals of foreign intelligence entities to produce findings that enable cybersecurity activities.
  3. Using data collected from a variety of defense tools (e.g. IDS alerts, firewalls and/or network traffic logs) to analyze events that occur within their environment.
  4. Investigating, analyzing, and responding to cyber incidents within network environments.


National Service Experience (i.e., volunteer experience): Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Current or Former Political Appointees: The Office of Personnel Management (OPM) must authorize employment offers made to current or former political appointees. If you are currently, or have been within the last 5 years, a political Schedule A, Schedule C, Non-career SES or Presidential Appointee employee in the Executive Branch, you must disclose this information to the Human Resources Office.
