Major Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Correspondence Coordination and Tracking: Incumbent is responsible for the identification, routing, controlling, coordination, editing, and dispatching correspondence addressed to, signed by, or of current or potential interest to the assigned division manager within Flight Standards. This includes congressional inquiries, correspondence referred from the White House, congress, the Secretary of Transportation, Aviation Safety and correspondence from private industry and the general public with varying levels of interest.
  • Analysis and Review: Applies experience and comprehensive knowledge applicable to assigned program area to plan and conduct functional activities for project/programs. Demonstrates a comprehensive knowledge of internal organizational relationships, as well as relationships with other offices within Flight Standards, Regional Administrator offices and executive correspondence staff of Flight Standards. As part of the incumbent's duties, he/she also reviews all correspondence reviewed and signed by assigned Flight Standards division manager before it is forwarded for signature. The Correspondence Services branch functions as the Flight Standards' Agency-wide coordination and communications mechanism for written correspondence. It is the authoritative channel for official written communications between Flight Standards, Aviation Standards, FAA, the Secretary of Transportation, Congress, and the White House.
  • Reporting and Assessments: Utilizes tracking data to generate reports to assess for trends in program area. Information will be used for management review and tracking of progress toward organizational goals. Reports sent to division manager levels and senior leadership within Flight Standards.

Qualifications

To qualify for the FG/GS-12 you must demonstrate in your application that you possess at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to FV-G, FG/GS-11 level. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position. Specialized Experience may include but not limited to: Knowledge of correspondence practices and procedures related to grammar and plain language standards, agency formatting requirements, and electronic tracking and reporting.

In addition to the above basic qualifications, this position has a quality ranking factor. Those meeting this factor will be placed in a well qualified category.
