WHAT DOES A TAX COMPLIANCE OFFICER DO? As a Tax Compliance Officer you are responsible for planning, scheduling, and conducting independent Correspondence Examinations and related investigations of individual and/or business taxpayers. During these examinations that Tax Compliance Officer determines and advises on Federal tax liability as well as conducts an analysis of the taxpayer's financial condition and related operations. These examinations may include individual non-business with wages and investment income, sole proprietors, individuals with business and other supplemental income. In this position, you will also provide tax law and tax-related accounting educational assistance to both internal and external customers.

You must meet the following requirements by the closing date of this announcement.
GS-7 LEVEL: You must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-5 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position includes: Experience using substantive knowledge of business practices, basic accounting principles, and Federal tax laws and regulations; and that required the ability to audit tax records, analyze systems and bookkeeping, use fact-finding techniques, and develop interpersonal skills. OR Superior Academic Achievement may be met by having a Bachelor's degree, with one of the following: A GPA of 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale for all completed undergraduate courses or those completed in the last two years of study, or a GPA of 3.5 or higher on a 4.0 scale for all courses in your major field of study or those courses in your major completed in the last two years of study, or rank in the upper one third of your class in the college, university, or major subdivision, or membership in a national honor society recognized by the Association of College Honor Societies. OR One year of graduate education in a related field of study such as: business administration, finance, accounting, auditing, taxation, law or other related fields.
In addition, applicants must demonstrate their knowledge of Principles of Accounting. Candidates demonstrate this knowledge either through successful completion of 6 semester credits/9 quarter hours of college level accounting work or successfully passing successfully passing an IRS administered accounting assessment.
-The experience may have been gained in the public sector, private sector or Volunteer Service. One year of experience refers to full-time work; part-time work is considered on a prorated basis.
