The primary purpose of this position is to serve as a Utilization Management Nurse/Compliance Officer. Incumbent will ensure the receipt of high quality, cost efficient medical outcomes for those enrollees identified as having the need for inpatient/outpatient treatment or overlong hospital stays.

Assess, plans, monitors, and evaluates patient care through utilization review.
Reviews and assesses inpatient and outpatient medical records.
Reviews and analyzes treatment records to evaluate quality necessity.
Identifies possible admission clinical discrepancies and discusses with attending physician.
Collaborates clinically with other healthcare professionals to ensure there is a process for the collection of utilization data.
Evaluates discharge planning and case management activities and conducts ongoing monitoring.
Prepares reports for dissemination during Inpatient Discharge Planning, Conferences.
Performs pre-admission, admission and continued stay review of elective, urgent, and emergency admissions.

Qualifications

BASIC REQUIREMENT(S): Education: A graduate or higher level degree, bachelor's degree, associate degree, or diploma from an accredited professional nursing educational program is required. This education must have been accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (external link), Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs (external link), Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education (external link), or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education (external link) at the time the degree was obtained. Successful completion of a PhD or equivalent doctoral degree from a professional nursing educational program or related medical science field; or
At least one full year of professional nursing experience (equivalent to the GS-9 grade level) and possession of a diploma, associate degree, bachelor's degree, or master's degree from a professional nursing educational program. Example of Specialized Experience: experience that promotes coordination, collaboration and continuity of care from admission to discharge by providing education.
