Duties

Help

Duties for Supervisory Community Services Program Specialist GS-101-15 include but not limited to:

  • Provides leadership to subordinate supervisors and staff through organized and focused dialogue around goals and priorities, in a dynamic and changing environment.
  • Administers grants and/or cooperative grants that provide assistance to States, Tribes, Territories, and/or private organizations.
  • Directs the development of policy, guidelines, and instructions and informational materials concerning the implementation and on- going operations of the programs charged to the Division.
  • Provides advice and counsel to subordinate supervisory staff and ensures reasonable equity among subordinates concerning performance standards, rating techniques, and assessment of subordinates.
  • Evaluates supervisors and reviewing evaluations made by supervisors of other employees.

Qualifications

Basic Requirements:

A. Have a degree in behavioral or social science; or related disciplines appropriate to the position.

OR

B. Have a combination of education and experience that provided the applicant with knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field.


OR

C. Have four years of appropriate experience that demonstrated that the applicant has acquired knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field.

Additional Requirement: In addition to meeting the Basic Qualification Requirement, you must also meet the Additional Qualifications Requirement listed below.

Have one year of specialized experience, equivalent to the GS-14 grade level in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector directing and monitoring programs related to community and/or social service; providing program and technical guidance to a staff responsible for managing planning training and technical assistance of grants; directing a team responsible for administering grants, contracts and cooperative agreements; performing supervisory duties such as: evaluating employee performance, identifying developmental and training needs of staff members, and/or hearing and resolving group grievances.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through national Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to gain employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. If such experience is on a part-time basis, you must provide the average number of hours worked per week as well as the beginning and ending dates of the experience so it can be fully credited.

Education

Foreign Education: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show that the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
