Duties

Help

If you are selected for this position you will serve as an Air Traffic Control Specialist at an Air Route Traffic Control Center. You will analyze Air Traffic Control (ATC) automation issues within the facility and apply knowledge of ATC systems to assure high quality automation support.

You will work with National Airspace System (NAS) software systems applying technical automation and air traffic familiarization to resolve software problems, create and maintain the adaptation database, and provide direct automation support to air traffic operations.

Your duties will include, but are not limited to: 1) performing required research to identify, analyze, and resolve operational automation discrepancies, 2) providing automation support based on knowledge of air traffic control procedures a general knowledge of facility traffic flows, flight data requirements, radar data, and intra-facility as well as inter-facility coordination procedures, 3) developing, maintaining, testing, and modifying the computer database to assure that maximum effectiveness is achieved and that data is processed in a precise and timely manner, and 4) coordinating with staff at local and other facilities regarding automation decisions and activities that affect operations.

You will participate on special project teams to evaluate the effectiveness of automation services. You will perform technical analysis, documentation, and related tasks in direct support of the air traffic operations. You will provide technical assistance to operational personnel for the resolution of system malfunctions and design and monitor the execution of test plans and implementation plans.

You will coordinate with Technical Operations, Air Traffic Representatives, Program Office, to manage software and adaptation requirements and to support second level activities.

If you are selected at the J band level, in addition to the duties above, you will have the authority to make decisions related to the maintenance of adaptation and software systems critical to the safe operation of the National Airspace System (NAS). Typical duties for the J band may include: complex system design and integration, extensive research and analysis, and direct responsibility for project/program management.

To qualify for this position at the I band you must demonstrate in your application that you possess at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to FV-H or FG/GS 10/11/12 in the Federal Service. Applicants must possess experience in a military or civilian air traffic facility that demonstrated possession of the knowledge, skills and abilities required to perform the level of work of the specialization for which application is made. This experience must have provided a comprehensive knowledge of appropriate air traffic control laws, rules and regulations. Creditable experience must have equipped applicants with the knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the full range of duties of the position for which application is being made.

Specialized experience for the I band may include but is not limited to: Experience working with various FAA automation computer systems, flight plan processing, surveillance data processing, and traffic flow management techniques.

To qualify for this position at the J band you must demonstrate in your application that you possess at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to FV-I or FG/GS 13 in the Federal Service. Applicants must possess experience in a military or civilian air traffic facility that demonstrated possession of the knowledge, skills and abilities required to perform the level of work of the specialization for which application is made. This experience must have provided a comprehensive knowledge of appropriate air traffic control laws, rules and regulations. Creditable experience must have equipped applicants with the knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the full range of duties of the position for which application is being made.

Specialized experience for the J band may include but is not limited to: Experience working with various FAA automation computer systems, to include a comprehensive knowledge of the laws, rules, regulations, and procedures governing the movement of air traffic. Experience working with aircraft separation standards and control techniques to improve air traffic operations.
