Project lead, MedlinePlus en español

Description of job: Provides leadership and direction, as well as maintenance of daily operations, for the MedlinePlus en español website. Maintains advanced knowledge of consumer health, health literacy, and electronic information delivery. Works closely to plan and synchronize content between and Spanish and English versions of MedlinePlus. Coordinates contractor staff, assigning tasks and performing quality control for deliverables. Serves as the primary editor for the project's Spanish-language social media feeds and Newsletter. Establishes and enforces translation standards and vocabulary for MedlinePlus en español. Manages other translation-related tasks and requests from inside and outside NLM, including evaluating translations from licensed content vendors and the NIH MedlinePlus Magazine.

Qualifications

Basic Requirements

In order to qualify for a Technical Information Specialist (Bilingual - Spanish), GS-1412 position you must meet the following Basic Requirements:

A. have a full 4-year course of study that meets all the requirements for a bachelor's degree with major study in the subject-matter field of the position to be filled;

OR

B. have four years of experience that provided a knowledge of the basic principles, theories, practices, techniques, and terminology of a discipline or subject-matter field; an understanding of the standard methods, procedures, and techniques of research and analysis in the subject-matter field; and where appropriate, ability to read and comprehend nontechnical material in one or more foreign languages. Such experience is equivalent to that which would have been gained through a 4-year college curriculum;

OR

C. have a combination of education and experience as described above.

Additional qualifications

GS-13 level

In addition, in order to qualify for a Technical Information Specialist (Bilingual - Spanish), at the GS-13 level, you must have 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-12 level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector, performing the following types of tasks: managing library systems and databases utilizing expertise in English and Spanish language terminology and vocabulary in the areas of health and medicine; managing, evaluating, and providing quality control of English/Spanish translations of health related materials for a library system; developing, maintaining, and evaluating electronic and print materials, databases, information standards, and services in a biomedicine, public health, health services environment.

GS-12 Level

In addition, in order to qualify for a Technical Information Specialist (Bilingual - Spanish), at the GS-12 level, you must have 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-11 level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector, performing the following types of tasks: developing, coordinating, or transmitting specialized information in the biomedical field utilizing expertise in English and Spanish language terminology and vocabulary; indexing specialized scientific and technical materials; conducting complex literature retrieval, summarization, and evaluation from a wide range of sources..
