Duties

Help

As a Health Scientist Administrator with CQUIPS the incumbent will contribute significantly to the Patient Safety team, supporting the Agency's mission to improve the safety and quality of health care and will have familiarity with patient safety research in a number of different areas, such as issues related to teamwork and communication, medication safety, care coordination, human factors, simulation, patient and family engagement and diagnostic safety.

Specifically, you will:

  • Serve as a member of a multidisciplinary staff of researchers, with the responsibility for planning, assisting, and coordinating Agency efforts for the improvement of patient safety and healthcare quality.
  • Develop comprehensive strategies to prevent and reduce medical errors and patient harm, participating on committees in areas of expertise.
  • Develop specifications for acquisition plans and contracts, serves on technical evaluation review committees, manages contracts awarded, and provides consultation and technical assistance related to day-to-day contract management.
  • Serve as a project officer on complex grants and contracts for programmatic areas of patient safety.
  • Assist with the planning and development of research strategies and programs and ensures gaps in research are identified and when appropriate, integrated in CQuIPS and/or AHRQ work.
  • Prepare papers, reports, and oral presentations that summarize significant developments in patient safety.
  • Represent the Center and Agency on multiple task forces, committees, and workgroups and provides substantive input related to patient safety and quality research.

THESE QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS MUST BE MET BY THE CLOSING DATE: 10/15/2020

You must have a Bachelor's or graduate degree with major study in an academic field related to the medical field, health sciences or allied sciences appropriate to the work of the position being advertised. This degree must be from an educational program from an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. You must provide a copy of your unofficial transcripts that reflect your final degree has been earned/conferred by the closing date of this announcement.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT:

In addition to meeting the education requirement, to qualify for this GS-14 Health Scientist Administrator position, your resume must clearly demonstrate that you have one full year of specialized experience comparable in difficulty and responsibility to at least the GS-13 level in the federal service. Examples of qualifying experience include the following types of tasks performed on a regular and recurring basis: Skilled professional in health services research focused on patient safety; Manage and prioritize multiple competing patient safety projects within established deadlines; Review, analyze and synthesize scientific and other information related to patient safety; Lead patient safety projects, including providing guidance on how to handle challenges that may arise; prepare, write, and present written scientific information related to patient safety.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; community; student; social). If such experience is on a part-time basis, you must provide the average number of hours worked per week as well as the beginning and ending dates of the experience so it can be fully credited.
