Duties

Help

As a Senior Policy Advisor, GS-301-15, the incumbent will perform the following duties:

  • Guides the development of Federal health IT priorities, policies, and implementation. Provides advice and assistance to senior officials in devising new approaches, developing new policies, and modifying programs designed to protect and improve the health of the nation.
  • Conducts and coordinates outreach, establishes relationships, and supports strategic partnerships with a variety of stakeholders.
  • Provides expert level content and strategy support to senior staff and policy officials regarding health IT regulatory policy, legislative law, regulatory formulation, and health service innovation. Serves as a liaison between ONC and other organization entities regarding implementation and evaluation of health IT policies.
  • Serves as a key member of the program's planning staff and provides authoritative advice, technical guidance and significant contributions to management's policy decisions, as well as short and long-range plans concerning program strategies.
  • Prepares summary papers for the Director and Deputy Director; identifies significant issues and probable impact on health IT, as well as crosscutting program activities.

Qualifications

Have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-14 level in the Federal service analyzing current and proposed policies to identify their potential impact on various health-related IT programs; reviewing and editing issue papers written by others to identify health IT-related problem areas; providing guidance on the impact and development of health and health services issues to senior management and external stakeholders.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through national Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to gain employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. If such experience is on a part-time basis, you must provide the average number of hours worked per week as well as the beginning and ending dates of the experience so it can be fully credited.
