The Photovoltaics and Electrochemical Systems Branch is hiring to support research and development of fuel cell, battery, and photovoltaic technologies critical for NASA's focus on returning to the Moon. Individuals who have, or will have received a Bachelor's degree within two years of appointment with a minimum grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 cumulative and a 3.5 GPA on a 4.0 scale in the field of study or a Graduate degree with a 3.5 GPA in the field of study.
This position develops into a Research Electrical Engineer at the GS-11 level and above.
Major duties at the GS-7 level include:
* Performing advanced training duties in research which develops the position in professional scientific and engineering work which is systematic, critical, intensive investigation directed toward discovering, disseminating, and applying new or expanded knowledge in a professional discipline.
* Works with and assists senior members of the staff in the performance of analytical/scientific/engineering assignments.
* Independently carries out the more common professional assignments in which you have received specific or related training.
* Researches and analyzes data, issues, and information that support project recommendations or the work assignments of higher-grade specialists.
* Prepares well-researched and logically organized presentations related to work assignments.
* Presents facts, issues, and positions that convey the intended information with the appropriate diplomacy and emphasis.
In addition to the GS-7 level duties, major duties at the GS-9 level include:
* Supports the test team in the planning and execution of research test programs.
* Works with experienced research engineers to develop skills in the use of optical measurement techniques.
* Performs additional data systems and analysis work to support the test.
At the GS-11 level, major duties include:
* Conducting independent research or supporting research activities of other team members in the branch which includes, but is not limited to, empirical and theoretical investigations with one or more of the following objectives:
* Improving overall performance of photovoltaic devices and solar arrays (i.e. increasing solar cell conversion efficiency, decreasing mass, improving radiation resistance, reducing cost, improving reliability, expanding operational environments, improving manufacturability);
* Improving overall performance of energy storage devices such as batteries and fuel cells (i.e. increasing specific energy, decreasing mass, development of next generation fuel cells and batteries);
* Developing novel/innovative methods of energy conversion and storage;
* Investigating methods of implementing advanced energy conversion devices and integrating them into viable power systems;
* Developing a fundamental understanding of the principles involved in the operation of energy conversion devices.
You must have successfully completed an undergraduate and graduate degree with a major in either a) engineering from a college or university that has ABET accredited engineering programs or b) Physical Science, Mathematics, Life Science, Computer Science, Other fields of science.
Degrees in engineering technology are not considered to be qualifying for this position.

ABET accreditation requirement applies to foreign education.
