F-LEVEL- Electronic Technicians (ETs) perform a variety of functions directly relating to the operation of the NAS. Focus is on the availability and reliability of the services and products provided to users of the NAS. Incumbent installs and maintains electronic equipment and lighting aids associated with facilities and services required for aviation navigation to ensure a reliable, safe, and smooth flow of air traffic. Performs work with radar, communications, computers, navigational aids, airport lighting aids, and electrical/mechanical support for
facilities within the network of the National Airspace System (NAS). Performs periodic maintenance (inspection
and analysis of equipment with association adjustments), corrective maintenance, troubleshooting, repair and
replacement of malfunctioning equipment, and certification. Maintains the electronics portion of facilities.
G-LEVEL- Incumbent provides support as an Electronics Technician for maintenance, calibration, repair, and
modification of navigational aids, communications and electrical systems. Performs a mix of routine and varying
assignments associated with analyzing, installing, repairing, fabricating, or troubleshooting electronic, electrical
and mechanical systems and components. Repairs and calibrates general purpose test equipment to include
electronic and physical/dimensional equipment. May provide on-the-job training to developmental technicians.
Applies experience and detailed technical knowledge of the applicable discipline as well as applicable procedures
and policies Also perform installation, modification, inspection, and repair of navigational aids, communications
and sub-systems under specific instructions. Exercises a complete knowledge of the operation and characteristics
of navigational aids, communications and equipment at an advanced level. Follows established procedures and
suggests changes, which may improve efficiency. Exercises an overall knowledge for test equipment used to
accomplish repair and/or calibration of navigational aids, communications and equipment. Conducts overall
performance checks of systems and equipment of higher complexity. Modifies and evaluates various systems and
equipment in facilities. Performs other varied assignments with a number of systems and equipment.
Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959.

OPM Individual Occupational Requirements (IOR) for Engineering Technical Series in conjunction with the Group Coverage Qualifications Standards for Technical and Medical Support Positions:
To qualify for this position at the F Band, you MUST demonstrate in your application that you possess at least one year (52 weeks) of experience with six months being specialized experience in applicable field experience with navigational aids, computers, principles and practices involved with inspection and analysis, repairing equipment, communications, knowledge of electrical and/or mechanical support, electronics and installation systems. Experience in a trade or craft may be credited as specialized experience when the work provided intensive knowledge of engineering and/or construction principles, concepts, practices, techniques, methods, and precedents. Up to six months of the work experience may be general work experience if the work demonstrates your ability to perform the duties of this position.
Or: Successful completion of 2 years of study that included at least 12 semester hours in any combination of courses such as engineering, engineering or industrial technology, construction, physics, drafting, surveying, physical science, or mathematics. Applicants should include examples of specialized experience in their work history.
To qualify for this position at the G Band, you MUST demonstrate in your application that you possess at least one year (52 weeks) of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower level (FV-F, FG/GS-9 and below) in the Federal Service. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE is experience that is in or directly related to the line of work of the position to be filled, which has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position. Examples of specialized experience include: experience with installation, maintenance, and modification of electronics and environmental equipment. Equipment may include but is not limited to equipment related to radar systems, navigational aid equipment such as lighted and distance measuring equipment, communication systems such as radio communications.
