Duties

Help

The Supervisory Health Scientist performs the following duties:

  • Directs and oversees development and evaluation of diverse educational programs, including intramural and extramural research, Responsible Conduct of Research (RCR) programs, and other pertinent resources. In doing so, maintain high levels of collaboration with individuals and entities whose activities are associated with research integrity and RCR. Direct, oversee, and maintain an ORI program for assurances and policy analysis regarding research integrity and research misconduct.
  • Interprets policy in terms of established objectives and determines approach to be taken and methodology to be used. Direct ORI Division staff in the establishment and maintenance of an intramural and extramural network of stakeholders, individuals, entities and other collaborators for the ongoing quality analysis and development of issues, analyses, and successful approaches to research integrity, research misconduct, and RCR core educational elements.
  • Promotes the ORI education and integrity mission to leaders, executives, scientists, researchers in diverse fields, PHS research awardees, other federal agencies, state and local agencies, institutions of higher learning, and private sector institutions both nationally and internationally.
  • Serves as the DEI Division Director responsible for the leadership, direction, oversight, maintenance, and development of staff, Division mission and activities.

Qualifications

At the GS-15:

To qualify for the GS-15, you must have at least one full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-14 level in the Federal service. Specialized experience includes: leading people engaged in biomedical research or research misconduct prevention and education activities; contributing to the field of research integrity (i.e., through scholarly publications, conference presentations); and, designing, implementing and evaluating programs/technical assistance efforts in the responsible conduct of research.

And

Must possess a bachelor's or graduate/higher level degree with major study in an academic field related to the medical field, health sciences or allied sciences relevant to research integrity appropriate to the work of the position. A copy of the degree transcripts is required by the closing date of the announcement.


Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through national Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to gain employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. If such experience is on a part-time basis, you must provide the average number of hours worked per week as well as the beginning and ending dates of the experience so it can be fully credited.
