The Michael E. DeBakey VAMC (MEDVAMC) and Baylor College of Medicine are seeking highly qualified physician candidates for full time clinician-educator positions to serve in general internal medicine and provides direct comprehensive patient care in an outpatient and/or hospital setting to adults with acute and chronic medical conditions. The position will require full faculty appointment at the Section of General Internal Medicine of the Department of Medicine at the academic affiliate, Baylor College of Medicine, with rank commensurate with experience and qualifications.
MEDVAMC is located in Houston, TX is part of the world-renowned Texas Medical Center, and is one of the most complex primary through quaternary facilities in the VA system. Houston is fourth largest as well as most diverse city the nation.
Qualified candidates need to demonstrate expertise in history taking, physical examination, test interpretation, patient counseling and differential diagnosis and medical therapeutics among adults with single or multiple disorders in broad field of internal medicine. Candidates are preferred to have had recognition for excellence in educational or clinical programs, and/or a record of scholarship as documented by publications in peer reviewed journals.
Work Schedule: Full-Time, 8:00am - 4:30pm (Alternate tours available)

Clinician-educators in general internal medicine spend the majority of their time in direct patient care or in the supervision of medical residents in either inpatient or outpatient settings, or both. As assigned by the section chief, duties will include but not limited to:
1. Continuity primary care practice (outpatient clinics)
2. Precepting medical residents in their primary care clinics
3. Inpatient general medicine ward attending (2-week blocks)
4. Patient panel management activities with members of the primary care medical home team
5. Teaching is an integral component of the activities of a general internist at the MEDVAMC. Teaching is conducted at the bedside and in clinics, as well as in didactic sessions with learners at
all levels.
6. All staff physicians at MEDVAMC are expected to engage in quality and safety activities..
7. All physicians are expected to comply with all policies, procedures, and Directives set forth by VHA.
