The William S. Middleton Memorial Veterans Hospital in Madison, WI (http://www.madison.va.gov/) is an 87-bed acute care facility which provides tertiary medical, surgical, neurological, and psychiatric care, and a full range of outpatient services. This facility serves 130,000 Veterans who live in 15 counties in south-central Wisconsin and in five counties in northwestern Illinois. The Madison VAMC is also the specialty care referral center for an additional 57,000 Veterans who reside in the Tomah VAMC primary service area, is affiliated with the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health, and is physically connected to the University of Wisconsin Clinical Science Center which includes the UW Hospitals and Clinics, and supports a Vet Center in Madison. Madison VAMC is responsible for community based outpatient clinics (CBOCs) at Janesville, Baraboo, Beaver Dam, WI, and Rockford and Freeport, IL and a primary care annex at Madison West Clinic, and is one of seven facilities that comprise Veterans Integrated Services Network 12 (VISN12) which is administratively headquartered at Hines, IL, and includes facilities in Illinois, Wisconsin, and Michigan.
The Prosthetic Clerk is a member of the Prosthetic and Sensory Aids Service (P&SAS) within the Prosthetics Product Line of VISN 12 located at the Madison VAMC.

-Use appropriate codes prior to purchasing items/equipment.
-Examine electronic health records and claim files to determine eligibility and entitlement for items.
-Enter data to create, note, cancel, complete and consult, and verify workload statistics.
-Advise the veteran, family member, or other representatives, of equipment safety, maintenance, and what to do to obtain repairs.
-Advise physicians and other staff as to the availability, selection, and acquisition of prosthetics devices/services and furnish information concerning new developments.
-Maintain association with vendors, medical center professionals and staff.
-Authorize and prepare complex purchase orders for a wide variety of prosthetic and orthotic devices, medical supplies, and home medical equipment and repairs.
-Issue, track, and report on prosthetic items and inventory using the Prosthetics Inventory Package (PIP).
-Reconcile invoices for certification of payment.
-Assist the supervisor and the Respiratory and Rehabilitation Service in required home visits for oxygen, home improvement, and structural alterations.
-Perform other duties as assigned.
At the GS- 6 grade level you will perform developmental assignments intended to broaden skill and provide practical experience leading to progressively more complex assignments performed under less supervision.
