Help

The Pathways Internship Program serves as one of the agency's succession planning programs intended to assist in the need for leadership continuity by employing outstanding students that are enrolled in a major that leads to a bachelor's degree or higher in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math (S.T.E.M). The Program provides students, in accredited colleges and universities, with paid opportunities to explore federal careers while completing their education.

We are looking for highly motivated student interns with expected graduation dates beyond May 2019, to serve as student trainees within the Program Management Organization (AJM) at headquarters located in Washington, DC.

As a student trainee, the incumbent will work with other professionals from various disciplines such as computer specialist, computer science, mathematics, air traffic controller, etc. The incumbent will possess knowledge of basic engineering concepts and communication skills sufficient to engage in engineering work for various groups in AJM. The incumbent will also be required to communicate information to various audiences through technical reports, notes, and briefings.

Other features of the Pathways Internship Program

APPOINTMENT - If selected, your appointment may not exceed a total of 120 days after graduation.

AGREEMENT: All participants must sign a written Pathways Internship Agreement with the FAA that clearly identifies expectations of the appointment such as duties, length of appointment, work schedule, training, mentorship, etc.

CONVERSION: Although it is not guaranteed, an intern may be converted from the Internship program to a permanent excepted service position without further competition after successful completion of the educational program (awarding of degree), completion of a minimum of 640 hours of career- related work, required training, mentorship, and other requirements in accordance with the intern's participant agreement.

TERMINATION: Participation in this program may be terminated at any time.

TRANSCRIPTS: MUST BE SUBMITTED. IF YOU DO NOT SUBMIT YOUR TRANSCRIPTS, YOUR APPLICATION WILL BE CONSIDERED INCOMPLETE AND WILL NOT BE GIVEN FURTHER CONSIDERATION.

Bachelor's degree in computer science or bachelor's degree with 30 semester hours in a combination of mathematics, statistics, and computer science. At least 15 of the 30 semester hours must have included any combination of statistics and mathematics that included differential and integral calculus. All academic degrees and course work must be from accredited or pre-accredited institutions.
